Ignition Timing Gti6 Carbs Setup

Recommended Posts

Hi,

After my rebuilt I've have some trouble to tune my advance on my GTI6 equiped with twin DHLA and a 1.9GTI ignition distributor.

I've bough and fit a knock sensor here : http://www.viatrack.ca/ , so my plan is to tune my ignition advance as fine as possible with this sensor. (idealy choose an advance just before the led start to flash..)

To start my tuning I've took my distributor in the "middle point" position : see pics

distrib.jpg

In this position, start the car is hard, bad iddle, dont take easily rpm, hesitate a lot, and don't have power, and my knock sensor flash at 2500rpm.

So after that I've turned the distributor full right to reach this position :

In this position the engine iddle fine, the engine take his rpm fine, and seem to have a good amount of power and torque, but my knock sensor flash at 3000rpm.

After that I've try the position between the 2 last position described and it's not better : have my knock sensor flashing with an engine who run not good and not bad ..

So my question have you some ideas to find the good position for my distributor ?

Thanks to give me some advices cause I admit that I'm a bit lost ....

(Sorry for my bad english)

In the bin?! :P:ph34r:

I joke but in a way it's true. I'm afraid you won't get a standard distributor to work very well on a 16v engine. You'll at least need to have it modified/re-curved/weighted by someone like H&H ignition solutions and even then it'll still be limited.
