205 Gti6 Top Engine Mount

Recommended Posts

i have done a far bit of searching in the last few days regarding putting a gti6 into my 205. i have had it in and it sat ok but was hoping for some feed back on the following. i used the gti6 top mount (black metal one) with the gti6 rubber mount below that also. it was a tight fit but it all lines up. is this right or do people use the 205 rubber mount. my 205 mount is severly worn/broken and after mesuring the two of them, i discover that the 205 mount is around 10mm lower than the gti6 mount? does this seem right?

using the std 205 gearbox mount, std 205 lower mount and 306 gti upper mounts the motor sits level and i dont have any major clearance issues with mc that cant be sorted. in fact the mc only just touches the cam cover. i havent sorted out the little buffers that sit each side of the top mount yet but the 306 one looks like it wont fit to good but std 205 ones might?

i want to order some uprated mounts, can someone shed some light on this so i make sure im ordering the right bits. is it fair to say that if the engine is sitting level im on the right track? what other thing should i check for?

I used the 205 top mount, and 306 buffers and it's very secure. You will really want to use a solid lower mount if you can, as it prevents the master cylinder taking a beating. The rad will be close to the inlet also and you don't want to whack that. My manifold has about 10mm clearance to the bulkhead, but the solid lower mount ensures that doesn't hit either. It's surprising how much they rock with standard lower mounts. You will get vibration though that's the downside

I tried an o.e 306 mount and it was too large a diameter

Std 205/405 height is normally 75mm. I modified a Vibra Technics mount and got it down to 65mm. Worked a treat.

Got a 405 mount for my conversion and I am about to order a set of Baker BM Ngroup engine mounts . That should do the job as at the moment I also have some play in the engine on standard engine mounts.

my 306 mount just fitted but was tight. it turns out that my original 205 mount was just really badly worn and disfigured it only measures 63mm. i will use the full 205 mount kit and it should be fine if i decide to go through with fitting the 16v, im having second thoughts.

thanks for the replies
