Is it me or does it actually sound quite promising?

definitely, DS3 platform started by going the right way and dropping 100 kilos over the 207, if the 208 is the same with the 204 bhp engine and classic pug damping and handling all should be ok.

Bit of a DS3-R clone. And i assure you, they drive nothing like a 205, power yes, fun no.

It does look like a Clio. But it's only early days, might look alot different from the computer generated picture.

Still, it suggests that the basic GTI may only have 154bhp. So in 20 odd years, its gained 24bhp over a 1.9 gti. The gti6 had 167 in the 1990's as we know. Needs more power. A 204bhp model sounds very interesting though.

It's about time pug started making proper cars. The last time I went to the dealership a couple of months ago, the staff seemed to think the hot hatch days were over and that they were focusing on the saloon market. It's going to have to be a bloody good car to compete with the Clio Sports.

A step in the right direction though, well done peugeot.

Wasn't the 207 GTi meant to be the GTi come back?

That car looks horrible, Renault front and Ford rear, another car designed by rules and regulations rather than flare and ambition. Shame.

They should stop comparing their latest model to a 205 gti no new car will ever be like a 205.

I hope they don't go the route that Citroen did with the DS3 Racing. it doesn't look sporty, it looks tacky imo

As far as I know from reading lots of different motor website, new 208 GTI will look like this which for my taste is fantastic !

There will be more powerful version 208 GTI Racing which sounds like a real treat !

The red version is  spot on Peugeot :)

Looks like a test drive is on the cards when it comes out :)

Has anyone seen the future of what the new Saxo's style will be, looks like a super car ?

I hate Peugeot's styling strategy, they need a serious re-think!

+1000

Looks wise it's nothing special (for me at least), another Fiesta lookalike and a typical modern shape that doesn't do it for me.

New cars don't need more power but LESS weight!

slightly silly question; but i think i need to ask it

With pug trying to produce a 'new' 205 gti - why not just buy a COMPLETELY RESTORED 205 gti, with the little niggles sorted, for some ludicrous price of course (£10,000+) ish and have the real deal - that would surely be a better solution

OR:

if peugeot made an actual 205 gti, with minor revisions to the structure/chassic etc etc. so it could have airbags air con and a better safety cell. but then dump in the proper engine, like one of the engines they are talking about?!

it just seems to me that its all talk, if they wanted to make a 205 gti - then they have all the power to produce one.

my 2 cents :/

Soon somebody will be brave enough to do the same thing as Alfaholics did to Alfa GTA. They will buy old 205's GTI, strip them out, restore, put new brakes, new uprated suspention and start selling these for mad prices.

The 208 looks like a cross between the Peugeot SR 1 and an Alfa MiTo. I rather like it! Looking forward to seeing the GTi
