K Reg 405 With Distributorless Ignition At Scrappy

Recommended Posts

Daviewonder

Hello

I've been informed that there's a 405 1.9 with a distributorless management setup at the local scrappy. Is this the later motronic set up? Is it worth me grabbing the setup for my 205?

Any info greatly appreciated :)

depends if its a 1.8 1.9 or a 2.0, a 1.9 would be ideal to use the ECU on you engine, the thermostat housing is the same on all of them though.

Yeah it's a 1.9. What do I need to grab? Engine loom, ecu, coil, thermostat housing?

throttle body+tps, MAP pipe.

can't remember if the 1.9 in a 405 used a double butterfly like an mi though, still need the tps.

Mostly they did, but the very odd one used the GTi inlet manifold

If it's a Motronic 3.1 setup and defo a 1.9 then grab it. Not many K reg 1.9's around though, so do double-check. The ECU map won't be ideal, but that can be sorted - the rest is ideal and the loom more suited for a 205 IMO than the ZX Volcane one.

Basically grab everything connected to the engine loom and you'll be pretty safe - ignition amp is different, and be sure to get the CO adjustment pot too

The 1.8's and 2.0's were also available with Motronic but that's no good really. Cam cover is the biggest clue - 1.9 looks like a normal 8v, whereas 1.8/2.0 have the air filter and oil filler as part of the cam cover.

just a thought, Flywheel!

dont know about the 405, but the mixture pot on the zx is bolted to the steel ecu cover

I doubt I'll be stripping that out

Can I just use the S16 one I have in the garage?

Ites a little black box, made by bosch, with a brass screw in the end. It may very well be attached or near to the ECU, but if your grabbing the loom then just take everything on the end of a plug.

What is it? What does it look like?

It's about the size of a matchbox with a 3-pin connector and a single adjustment screw.

It's used for setting the idle mixture (same as the screw on the AFM for example) and without that it'll run rich at tickover and throw an error code.

As said, basically just get everything that's plugged into the engine management loom and you'll be safe :)

You can use the S16 flywheel just fine, with a larger 215mm clutch obviously.

Thanks for all the info guys, very helpful as usual. I just hope it's all intact when I go to get it. Knowing my luck the engine will have been cut out or something
