Has anyone here got any experience of owning and running one of these?

 

I've been offered one at a decent price, but not sure whether to go for it or not

 

Is there anything I need to look out for when driving and looking over the car? I'm going to have a look at it this evening, just thought I'd consult on here as the info I get from here is always spot on.

exhaust heatshield rattles, rear beams, noisy clutch bearings, kerbed wheels, rotten exhausts.

 

Nice engine, benefits from a proper ecu update if it hasn't been done, remaps can gain impressively torque wise.

Impossible to not kerb the alloys. If the back box is original it will need replacing soon. Driving position is poor, in my opinion. Also if you've ever had problems with your rear quarter badges being pinched off of your 205 them you will lose the arch trims and petrol cap from a 206 180 within a day or two! The coils are also prone to cracking/leaking and I found the petrol consumption to be appalling even when driving sensibly!

 

However I still find them fun to drive!

they didnt all have arch trims, i think that was an sp pack option, fuel usage really shouldnt be that bad though ?

I had one on a 54 plate and bought when it was 2 and a half years old, FSH and 37k on the clock. After about 6 months ownership the engine wouldn't rev from cold and was lumpy as hell idling. When warm it would be fine.

 

Strangely the mother in law had one of the same age and similar mileage and had the same issues. I believe i was told at the time it was something to do witht the valve timing and was a common and expensive problem.

 

In the end i sold it as is, as did the mother in law.

 

If i was buying now i'd want to see the car start from cold and give it a good test drive. Also as mentioned previously, the back boxes seem to be made of tinfoil.

 

I did think the driving position felt quite awkward and squashed almost.

 

To be honest i prefer a 306 gti6.

Im taking the engine out of one tomoro as the electronic side of the brake system failed and the car is no more :unsure:

you sure there isnt something built into the ecu as my mates clio 172 ( think it was ) wouldnt rev much when it was cold, but the warmer it got the more it would rev. they put that on so it saves damaging the engine

Yep, on the fly-by-wire throttle body versions. You could bury the accelerator, but the ECU would only give you 3/4 (or whatever it was) throttle until the engine was warmed up. I know Hill Power were working on retro fitting the original cable throttle body, but don't know if they ever achieved it.

No,it wasn't like it held the revs at 2k even, but juddery and would be like it was misfiring almost,totally undrivable first thing in the morning

Had a look at it last night, took it for a spin, plenty of poke, but not too keen on the driving possition.

 

It's a lot of things, but it's Not as good as a 205!
