Mayo Catch Tank Info

Recommended Posts

Alfie

That time of year again and Mayo back in the oil filler with a vengance. So, anyone know where I can find a diagram of how exactly I can set up a catch tank please? Fancy something like items found on Fleabay, but not sure which one and a set-up, thanks.

Looking at mine, its quite simple really.

Oil vapour feed at the top, along with another take off at the top to attach a filter (to protect the atmosphere ;) ) and then a return to block/sump at the bottom.

Might be useful to know mine has a 1 way valve allow oil to dribble back into the block and not allow any crankcase pressure to enter to catch tank from the wrong end!

Ok, let me just check. 1. do you retain the oil filler and block off other than oil fillerhole, 2. your take-off comes from the rocker box to the top of tank, 3. you have a small filter also on top of tank, 4. where abouts does your return come from on tank and where to, return to sump, 5. where in this would the one way valve go? sorry, but i have tried previously and didnt actually achieve anything, cheers dcc.

1, yes exactly as you described.

2, yes.

3, yes,

4, Return is from the bottom of the catch tank is into the rear of the block on mine, you would need some sort of special fitting for this by the looks of it, but noting stopping you 't-ing' into the filler neck.

5, the 1 way valve sits in the middle of the oil return pipe to the block. the top hose, aka vapour in, does not have a valve. I should have soem photos... ill look on the pc when i get inside.

Thanks again dcc. Having googled the subject first, there appears to so many different methods. The simplest is a pipe from atop the oil filler cap into a large bottle. End of. Going to have to try something soon, already looking at an oil change due to the ammount of crap in filler. And theres only one way, down from there.
