Help With Touching Up Paint Work

Recommended Posts

Andy F

Hi everyone

I wondered if anyone could help with info about touching using spray cans.

I have a areas of paint tgat need touching up from I dropped the engine which are a bit to much to use touch up pens.

I have tried sanding back the small areas but I use primer it blisters all the surrounding paintwork, any ideas?

Thanks

is it blistering or reacting,i would say your putting the primer on to wet and heavy, take it all off and start again and just put light coats on

Maybe reacting comes up in a sort crackle effect

On of the wheels I was refurbishing did that. Only one and only in one area, no matter how much I rubbed it down it kept doing it, it was reaction rather than overspray.

Not much help to you because in the end I just left it as it was!

A hot air gun is a handy bit of kit in times like that, had problems like that before and I put light coats on to build the layers up with gentle hot air being spread over the area. That is a little trick I picked up when I was in the motor trade. That other thing is to get some panel wipe to remove stuff that could be causeing the reaction.

the primer is reacting with the paint your spraying over as the solvent in the primer is attacking the paint edge, rub all the primer back off feather the original paint back with 180 and just put light coats on like said above dry the primer with a heat gun as soon as the primer touchs the panel,
