Quality Mi16 Engine Builder

Recommended Posts

peterbardell

After 10 years of ownership (and abuse) I'm finally getting round to repaying the favor and restoring the pug .... its got an Mi16 conversion ... brought a few years ago. It runs ok and survived a good hammering @ Silverstone but i know its not long till it'll take no more. Time is tight so im looking for an 'all in one' company who wiill completely strip and rebuild to pretty much OE spec along with some sensible upgrades to help reliability ... ARP bolts uprated oil pump, baffeled sump etc etc .... if its not too much maybe oversized valves and a light polish/port ..maybe!! ....

I live in Bedfordshire but will be more than willing to travel for a good service ....

Any advice much appreciated.

Pete

Ah ... i clicked that pug racing link but the page is under construction .... do you know where he's located? ..... and that was the quetion i forgot to ask .... any ideas on the the range of costs. I know its a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question .... but whats a resonable cost for a tired MI16 rebuild with a few choice upgrades ... ideally all i want is a strong engine with the potential to increase the power in the future ... ie witht the addition of throttle bodies or even a S/C.

Miles is located between Ringwood and Sailsbury near the South Coast.

No idea on labour rates, but for a quality Mi16 rebuild the chances are that you'll be looking at into four figures for parts and machining alone - certainly last one I did was not far off that sort of money and that was a few years back now. Obviously much will depend on the condition of the engine when stripped (eg crank need regrinding, liners serviceable, block corroded etc) but certainly a full rebuild is never cheap.

So not a million miles aways then ... also ... totally irrelevant by my sis lives that way too.. :)

So a budget of somewhere between 1K - 1.5K should cover it then? ...

Can anyone recommend anyone else?

You'll need to speak to Miles, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't a fair bit more than that once you include labour on top - parts/machining alone will likely be most of that.

As said feel free to give me a call, Condition of the Alloy parts now is getting bad so you may have to include welding if possible as not all castings are that great but with anything like this until stripped you never know what you might need, But I do have loads of the little parts that are always handy if missing.

I've got a friend who's near Hatfield M1 area who's always down with me if that would help with transport

Thanks Miles .... its going to be a pretty big (for me anyway) project so im trying to get the money sorted and workout the correct process of events as it needs a full respray too ... recon rear beam ... coilovers .... brake overhaul ... drivetrain work ... you get the idea!

Ill give yo a call when she ready to go :)

Thanks

Pete
