I've been offered a DTA E48 at what I feel is a good price !!

What like is this ECU, Is it old hat now or is it still seen as a good unit ?

its just as capable as the dta s40, just slightly different drivers.

if its working, in good order then I think they're still worth £300 ish.

very fair. normally looms are in the region of £300 on their own :)

maybe a cheeky £350 offer would be worth it.

important to consider who is going to be your mapper before you buy anything though. Sandy is going to be mapping mine for me :) (e48)

Very true,

I'm up in Scotland so might struggle with a decent mapper.

Depends on the loom - is it ready to plug straight into a 205, or at least easily adaptable and built to a high standard?

Most looms that I see are what I'd politely call "fit for the bin" they're of such a low standard, built by people that don't know a crimping tool from a wildebeest or a soldering iron from a lampshade <_<

That's at the top end of the price range for an DTA E48 these days in my opinion, so would really need to have a very good loom for that, and worth checking the which revision the ECU is (it's hand written on the front) as some of the older variants don't support some of the features (and given the age of an E48 it is lacking the features of many modern ECU's anyway). From memory, V34 is the later one and many features aren't supported below V30.

The loom was in a escort running a C20XE so it'll require work to fit my car I should imagine.

Thanks for the insight all the same, I might just give this a miss.

Just replied to your PM and said similar there.

I have an E48 on my 8v. It's still up there really, it has loads of features that many basic current ECU's have these days.

DTA is really one you'll want to ask your mapper about as he'll need to be set up for it. The software isn't the most straight forward and you can either use hot keys to navigate around or a Pot-box ideally.

I'd have to seriously think about whether i want to use another DTA again when there's much simpler about.

I'd make a loom up from scratch, modding existing looms is never good unless you replace the complete length of cable as joining them up is not a good idea at all.

Are you sure Cameron? I thought that Emerald was only able to use 2-pin PWM type ICV's (e.g 1.9 Mi16) or 5 pin stepper motor (e.g K-Series) designs, and that the one that *wasn't* supported was the 4 pin ICV as used on most late 90's PSA cars?

Ah, I remember now.. what I did was yoink a 5-wire stepper motor off a Rover K-Series, which is a direct replacement for the GTi6 one on the plastic ICV housing. You just need to undo the 2 screws and swap them over.
