Which Rear Beam?

Recommended Posts

spikster

I have a 205GTI with a 309 GTI rear beam in. The beam is a "temporary" beam whilst I decide what to do.

The car had a rebuilt beam in when I got it, the the arms and shafts have decided to part company, I think the arm holes are shot, and the shafts are OK, as they were brand new shafts.

The car is only used on the track, it currently has a 309 beam with a 23mm ARB and standard torsion bars.

The options I am looking at are:

1. Get a second hand beam, strip down for the trailing arms (replace the shafts if required), rebuild my 309 beam with new 25mm ARB and 23mm Torsion bars. The beam already has solid bushes and Bilstein dampers.

2. Get a second hand 205 beam, rebuild with 306 trailing arms, 23mm torsion bars, solid bushes and 25.4mm ARB

Will the 306 trailing arms give better handling?

The front of the car has Bilstein Coilovers with 350lb springs with adjustable top mounts and rose jointed wishbones.

Thanks

Andy
