Speedo Not Working

Recommended Posts

Strictly_Derv

I've recently put a 1.9 td into my 205 Dturbo and now the speedo doesn't work. If I twist the cable it shows a reading on the clock so it must be in the gearbox where it's not working..

Its the original box from the previous 1.8td engine. Any idea's?

Are you sure that the cable is properly pushed home at the gearbox end? Sometimes they can prove stubborn and don't push fully home - if the rubber pin won't go back in and hold the cable in place, it's not properly home, and chances are won't turn the cable.

I can push it in easy enough and the rubber pin goes in fine. I noticed after I pulled it out to check the cable could be pulled out more are it was on sticking out a lil bit. I'll try it again tomorow and pull the cable out as far as I can get it

Have you have the speedo drive unit apart at all?

Well I took the plastic bit out where the cable goes into as I was going to swap box's but I didn't so I just put it back in.

Did you have the speedo cog housing off on the gearbox (3 x 13mm nuts) at any point?

If you jack the car up so wheels are off floor, spin the wheels round with the vss out and see if the larger speedo cog is moving?
