Part Number Or Part Needed - Boot Underlay

Recommended Posts

kingboyk

Hi all, I have a phase 1.5 GTi (reg 1990) and I'd like to replace the underlay in the boot as it's rotten. Local Pug dealer says not available but I'd just like to check that and/or find if there's anywhere else where can I get it. Can anyone help with info?

I'd look elsewhere for something suitable then, maybe an upholsterers or caprpet suppliers :)

What would people recommend for an alternative?

Need some thing that's not going to absorb the water

Surely you should be ensuring that there's not water in the boot in the first place? It should be bone dry in there

Larger motorfactors and other places will sell generic underlay / sound deadening that's similar to the original Peugeot stuff.

eBay has various offerings listed such as this but the postage means that it's almost certainly cheaper to buy it locally.

Thanks, that's a bit of a bugger but at least it's not a really important part!

@ Anthony: was more for under the cabin carpet. My sunroof plate leaks ;)

To be fair, the same comment still applies - fix the cause (ie the leaking sunroof panel) and not the symptom (the resulting damp underlay)

Regardless of how water resistant the underlay is, if you've got a leak moisture will still get underneath it and be trapped against the floorpan encouraging rust, and the damp carpet will just smell musty after a while and cause the car to mist up easily in winter. 205's can (and should!) be perfectly dry inside.

I think it's more rotten with age tbh (but will have another look some time as you are absolutely right). It wasn't damp so far as I recall nor were there any signs of rust.

Mine was nice and dry but crumbled to a pile of dust, so for £4 off ebay (1.5 meteres) I bought the acoustic carpet same stuff in the rear of your 205. I just used the boot mat as a template. In my stripped mi16 I dont have any underlay beneath the carpet and it doesnt seem to be a problem.

Hello,

I am looking at new sound proofing for the whole car, I did get a quote a while ago from a company called Noise Killer Acoustics.

In the kit there is a pannel for the boot floor, so I am sure they would sell pannels indvidually.

When I got the quote (feb) the whloe kit was £199 plus £10 p&p

Can not say how good they are as I have not yet ordered it.

Have just done this exact job. My underlay rotten and fell to bits, so bought this off eBay

Bought the spray glue and stuck it to rubber backed underlay, also off eBay. Will take a pic when it's light.

The boot looks good as new!
