Patience Is A Virtue

I am setting my self a target of saving enough money by the new year to buy myself a GTI, I have had 3 in the past and have always wanted another one and I think as I am getting on that time has arrived.

I am hopeing to strip it down a bit and rebuild it (I have done nothing like this before, only changed a Radiator and Exhaust, and have no tools as of yet, so it should be fun)

Ideally I would like a red non-sunroof model but am not sure on a Gti-6 or MI-16 engine conversion (Whichever is easier I guess  )

As soon as I can purchase a car I will post some pics and kepp people updated on the progress.

So I better start saving, should have about £600 to get me started by the new year (Tools and car).

Wish me luck

:)

For tools i couldnt recomend the Halfords professinal range enough, its great quality and lasts. there chests arnt very good though so i bought a clarke top of the range one and its mint.

Dont you think your budget is a bit optimistic for a car and tools?

the price is just to start me off, by the time i have the car stripped down i will have more funds to spend on it, I will have about £80 a week to spend on it.

I ws looking at the tool sets in Halfords and they are half price at the moment, and the jack and stand set is reduced to £50, hopefully next month i will get some tools and stuff for my birthday :)

They always have half price. i started off with there 150peice set and its still going strong a couple of years later.

Im sure if you used them everyday in a garage theyd probably brake but doing the weekly diy theyre fine imo.

If you struggle to budget for halfords pro, the tools in machine mart arent too bad. and as i said above my clarke chest is mint, much better quality than the halfords and twice the size for the same money.

Find a friend with a halfords trade card, you can save alot on tools with them. I paid about £30 (was originally £100) less for a professional set year or so ago.

just keep your eyes open and have the cash ready, ive never paid top money for my gti's and its just because ive been vigilant and waited for the right one to pop up. Good luck hunting as there seems to be plenty about at the minute :) .I reakon youll get a good shell for £300 quid at the minute if you check pistonheads etc constantly. Dont forget the motor sport adverts too.

I recently got about £300 worth of shocks, braces and all sorts for £130 quid posted as i found them on the pistonheads motorsport section and shells etc come on there too or the people with the parts have them when you get talking ;)

You very rarely get a bargain on ebay
