As far as i can tell i have a good set of these bushes. I would like some advice on what product i can use to treat them in before fitting them, to keep them in the same condition or better and not wear out so quick ?

I was thinking of some sort of oil, grease or even tyre dressing products

Cheers G

my mechanic uses copper grease all the time. i guess it must be a reason for that.

Worse stuff you can use, I hate it with a passion. I know Powerflex (wash my mouth out) etc supply a packet of grease with the bush's, Not sure what it is thou

Indeed. What's the problem with copper grease then?

its got bits in it, so not suitable for use as a lubricant,

Lubricant for major rotating parts, absolutely - but surely it's primarly an anti-seize grease which, given the movement in an ARB bush, would be perfectly fine - perfect in fact, given the state of every bush I've ever tried to take apart (they do catch some grot down there don't they!). "The worst stuff you can use"? Really? What, because the little bits of copper are going to wear your bush out prematurely?

powerflex stuff seems to be similar to what you get inside CV joints which is moly grease isn't it? I'm sure that would be more than adequate.

Most greases will eat rubber! Exactly same reason loads of brake caliper sieze, rubber grease would work. Very expensive though

Rubber grease sounds good :)

The bushes are OE and basically, i want some stuff to rejuvenate them which is why i thought soaking them in tyre dressing would help this. I understand they last ages etc but as these OE ones are rare now and people can only get those blue/orange aftermarket useless one's, i want to try to look after them well.

I imagined they were rubber but because they are a poly type of material, i need something that will help keep them in good condition. Im not sure the poly would soak up any sort of chemical/grease etc to help them get rejuvenated. However a good grease im sure would help stop them wearing out due to less friction etc.

I did think of using these so a company can copy them exactly and maybe do a group buy or something, but after trying i didn't really get anywhere with that.

I avoid copper grease unless they are for bolt threads of coarse.

Cheers :)

Im sure vaseline has hydrocarbon grease in it which swells and softens the rubber, not a good idea. The silicone grease is very good stuff. It's made of polydimethylsiloxane stuff inside which i guess is perfect for poly types of rubber. Its also 400C resistant which will help because they are close to the 6 manifold. Not to mention its a corrosion-inhibitor, repels water.

Sorted :)
