Rear Beam In South Devon

Recommended Posts

exitwound

Hi, first time posting on here. Rear beam has gone on my 1.9 GTI and am looking for solutions. Can anyone reccomend a way of replacing it. Sat with a garage currently. I don't have the space, time, tools nor the skill to change it myself so would be looking for a replacement. Anyone had experience of R. Mountjoy. Spoken to them and they don't have any in stock but could strip mine and rebuild it while-I-wait for £420. Others I've seen are with hiflow heads for £355 to ship it to me but not sure how specialised the garage would be at fitting it. Alternatively if there are any kindly souls locally, who wish to share their skills, that could help please message me. Have also emailed Miles on here as I see he gets a lot of recommendations. Sorry for so many questions on a first post

Hi

£420 does that include parts? worst case scenario you'd be looking at replacing both trailing arm shafts which are about £90 for both and maybe even the rear beam. You'd only find out once the beam was stripped,

You'd also need new bearing seals and fastners each side as well as replacement mounts.

I will reply later when I'm in the office, but I tend to price the beam according to condition as it's impossible to tell what you need until stripped down, But with my current workload I couldn't look at doing one for around 3 weeks,

Have a look at this Post regarding a company you might have talked about, but it's simple sums for a complete rebuild of, Pins £70.00 each, Bearing Kit etc, £70.00, Wheel Bearings £70.00 each, Front mount rubbers around £35.00 a side (x2 needed) rear mounts £12.00 each x2 and that's over £400.00 before labour.

I had a replacement rebuilt beam from Mountjoy Engineering fitted just over two years ago for £400. I was in the same situation as you and couldn't be bothered to buy all the parts and attempt to do it myself.

They are a home business, out in the sticks near Stockland, Honiton.

My replacement rear beam has been fine.

Thankyou all for advice and offers. Currently having my car reviewed to make sure nothing else is going to go wrong soon (recent clutch, brake master cylinder and the metal water pipe replaced). I have been thoroughly impressed with the forum for the past two years as a "lurker" and more so now
