Most hybrid cars look embarrassing - its like they're trying to punish you for being a hippy.

the 0 - 60 times are quite impressive for a hybrid though and i agree the styling is shocking, kind of looks like the TT from I Robot hit a shirocco!

Was talking about this with the missus yesterday.

I'm pretty sure locked away in a vault, someone, somewhere has developed the technology to enable engines to run on almost fresh air or far more economically than is available on the market at present. I'm not talking about hybrids, just internal combustion.

Think of all the money lost for oil companies and governments in tax, and how everything would be cheaper if an engine ran at a fraction of the cost of what it does.

I personally don't believe that since the invention of the internal combustion engine anyone has yet to work out how to make it so efficient that it costs literally pence to run. Whilst we are told hybrids are the future are they really going to oust petrol or diesel. I think not.

Sorry for taking this slightly OT but it just hit a nerve as me and the missus had quite a lengthy debate on this.

i heard a similar tale from a guy who know his stuff, he told me that way back when carbs were being developed to run more effociantly, ford developed such a car that could run one tank for months, which they subsiquently sold to a man by mistake. when he returned the car for the fault of the fuel gauge not working properly and not needing to fill it up since he bought the car. they realised and swaped it for a brand new one.

the car and prototype design was then bought by shell and the ford dealer ship were payed a massive ammount of money to never use or mention it again.

i can see how this storey could have made oil companys a huge loss being why they went to huge lengths to stop it from being released but how true this tale is is another question.

please bear in mind that this is just something ive heard.
