Cant Open Bonnet?

Recommended Posts

monty400k

Hi, started a new topic on the same subject a few days ago, but it is now locked and I am unable to post anything in it, dont know why??

Hoping someone can help me out, cant seem to get the bonnet open at the moment, opened it a few weeks ago to check the oil, when I closed it something didn't seem right, it closed but the driver side hinge seems to have bent leaving that side of the bonnet proud of the wing, when I tried to open the bonnet to see what has happened it releases but then wont open when I pull the safety catch, Ive had the grill off and I can see the safety is clearing the slam panel so it appears that the centre spring has jammed, the cable releases and is not under tension so I dont think it has snapped, has anyone had a similar problem, any suggestions...?

Tried getting a mate to pull the release handle while I tried to open it but it made no difference, it seems that the spring loaded latch has jammed?

Thanks, Jon

I moved your other topic as it was in the wrong section and it ended up locked, now every time I unlock it the forum immediately locks it again, I've got no idea why but I can't seem to do anything about it.

This topic is in the wrong section too so I'll be moving it shortly, hopefully this one won't end up inadvertently locked.

Take a tiny , but long , pocket screwdriver and an flashlight ... lite up the area around the corners of the headlamp (dunno on which side bonnet cable goes on RH car ? .. if it's on the RH side then do the RH headlamp if its on the LH do the LH lamp ...) , locate the headlamp hooks , pry them up with the screwdriver and pull the headlamp out (it's a little bit tricky but it can be done ..) ... then , you'll see the bonnet cable will be down under the half frame - grab the cable and push/pull , an it'll open up .. at least it should .

No good if the cable has disconnected from the mechanism or snapped though!

Mine snapped a month or so ago so I had to be a bit more inventive.. If you get a torch and a long screwdriver you can peer in through one of the grille slats and locate the mechanism, then use the screwdriver to pop it open. It's incredibly fiddly and frustrating but it is possible.

I dont think it has snapped as when I pull the release the bonnet does pop up, just not as much as normal, I have managed to get the grill off and can see the safety isnt holding the bonnet down as it isnt in contact with the slam panel, thats what makes me think the mechanism is at fault some how...?
