Possible Bent Valves

Recommended Posts

jaggers12

after changing the head gasket on my gti 6 ive developed quite a loud tapping. at first thought it was just sticking tappet but its been doing it for to long now.

ive just been lookinon the gti6 forum and they say you carnt turn the cam by hand as this can bend them but if the bottem end is timed up what can the valves hit as

i dont want to have this problem again.

thanks andy

Oh dear.

The valves will hit each other(inlet/exhaust) if you turn cams a full rotation, there pretty big.

There is a set position to fit the cams into the head, then you only turn them slightly to time them up.

Do not turn full rotation if you pass the timing mark on pulley.

all you need is a gasket, you can re-use iron block bolts as long as they measure up within spec, especially given you've only just put it together.

carrier bolts?

They're reknowned for rounding off, alot of companies renew them when rebuilding. 10nm from memory but seize up a bit from age.

Grade 8.8 or less from memory
