Cant Get Bonnet Open?

Hi, hoping someone can help me out, cant seem to get the bonnet open on my car at the moment, opened it a few weeks ago to check the oil, when I closed it something didn't seem right, it closed but the driver side hinge seems to have bent leaving that side of the bonnet proud of the wing, when I tried to open the bonnet to see what has happened it releases but then wont open when I pull the safety catch, Ive had the grill off and I can see the safety is clearing the slam panel so it appears that the centre spring has jammed, the cable releases and is not under tension so I dont think it has snapped, has anyone had a similar problem, any suggestions...?

get a mate to lean on the bonnet while you pull the handal.
