yup, the answer is of course bloody not, its called the 208 for a start

now if they had the balls to put a TU5J4 or the EP6DTH in the 107 (or 108 maybe), THAT would be something of a modern take on a 205, but nothing will ever be a "new 205 gti"

It'll just be another lardy thing with a turbo I guess.

Car looks nice though.

it might not be lardy actually, the DS3 had a respectable 1150 kerb weight for the 200 bhp model, just a shame they only made 1000 of them.

everything is lardy for safety

everything is turbo'd for emissions

Yeah I agree, theres no way they could make anything that had the 'qualities' of the 205 with the current safety regulations.

I think its entirely possible tbh, concentrate on all this strength and safety and pare it down, Mazda have started doing it with their current cars, Citroen did it with the DS3's new design.

The new gen cars are mainly heavier because they're too big!.

It looks japanese, the front reminds me of a Mitsubishi Colt or ASX.

Yeah definitely running out of new shapes so they copy others. From that picture it does seem to have a resemblance to the 205, be good to see the sides and back.

If this car was sold to a high amount and started to get recognised as a good hot hatch generally then it may be the next new Peugeot hot hatch ever since the 205 gti, but thats a big hope

Top end Clio's are about as close as I reckon you're gonna get to a new, modern 205 GTi.

why do they make all modern cars so high now ? so big ? when they know they can make them small yet still save.

if they love the 205 so much, why dont they just take a 205 and re moddle it ? like porsche do

I think its something to do with its cocoon shell, like a roll cage.

The problem with all these new shells and windscreens that are a continuity of the bonnet is that visibility on the A pillars is really crap and you can't judge the end of the car in front.

A friend of mine drives a Colt and he was surprised how good visibility my Forester has compared with his.

New cars are crap in general..

The age of a decent car is long gone..

When you think about what the car buying public want, it's a catch 22 situation that, along with various other factors, means that we are never going to see the likes of the 205 GTI ever again.

The only way to get close to a modern 205 GTI would be to start off with a true poverty spec supermini. Something like these £6-7k hatchbacks that have been made in the last few years. Something that has absolutely no mod cons and basic safety features. Get a decent motorsport company involved in it's development and then GTI the f*** out of it (have I just described the Proton GTI from a few years ago? ).

But - and this is a big but - it wouldn't sell. OK, in small numbers it would, but small numbers wouldn't get it through production. It wouldn't sell because to be like a 205 GTI it would

1) Have to be lightweight. That means basic construction, flimsy materials, lack of creature comforts and refinement, and poor safety. The public don't want this.

2) Have to use a revvy NA engine, so let's say 1.6-1.8 litres and maybe 160-170bhp using variable valve timing etc. The majority of the fast car buying public would dismiss it as not being fast enough, because these days it's all about turbos and 200bhp plus.

A few years ago EVO were singing the praises of the Fiat Panda 100HP, and I'm sure they compared that to the 205 GTI. Can't say I've ever seen one on the road though.

to be honest a small revvy turbo engine would work in the right chassis. But the size of the car is going to be key. Top of the range hot hatches have got bigger and are now not for new young drivers but slightly older customers with more money and more family commitments.

Personally I think they are now too big - certainly bigger than saloons of the 90's
