Black Diamond Clutch For 1.9 Mi

Recommended Posts

Paul_13

We have just spent the last three hours trying to fit the box on, still not having it after lining the clutch up for the second time.

Took the clutch cover off and trial fitted the friction plate onto the splines and it only goes on by 5mm if that.

Flipped the plate round to test fit and it doesn't even slide on.

The splines are tapered like fook and I'm mega fooked off!

I had a Black Diamond clutch on my old MI 2.0ltr and that was fine. As 5mm goes on, then i cant see why it wont carry on

The splines on the friction plate are not machined properly, physically will not go on fully.

Tried the old friction plate and it slides up and down the input shaft with ease.

My whole upper body aches like hell trying to get the box on soo many times. Going to be sore tomorrow!

Certainly sounds like it hasn't been properly machined.

I've fitted a couple of their clutches (although 200mm 8v ones) and never had an issue, but can certainly understand your frustration as getting the gearbox back on can be a tiring and irritating enough job as it is, let alone trying and trying only to find out that the clutch plate isn't fit for use!

On the bright side though, at least you didn't actually get the gearbox fitted and ready to drive only to find that there's something amiss and you'll have to remove the gearbox again... been there, done that <_<

Ok so it seems like this clutch is an isolated case then, I was testing the water to see if other people have had same problem.

Just a pain, as the company will want it returned and a report done before they'll send out another. Only thing is we need it asap!

Try moly greasing the splines with a small amount, then put the shaft onto the hole nice and straight, then wiggle it a little bit up, down, left and right. Thats always worked for me every time.

Dude it physically won't fit and that's putting the friction plate directly onto the input shaft. The spines in the friction plate are tapered massively and not machined properly.

I appreciate where your coming from, I do that on every other gearbox I've done but this is having none of it!

Sorry i meant to any gearbox as a matter of course. I would eat/drink some protein tonight to help heal your muscles. 3 hours is a proper workout

If they're playing silly sods and you're desperate Paul, I've got a nearly-new Mi16 clutch here (and maybe a brand new one too) if you want to take that and give me back the replacement when you receive it?
