You're correct yep (hence my 306 driveshaft wanted). Do you no if a 206 diesel one will do?

205 RH shaft ok still?

Cheers matey :)

Dunno about the 206 option. It's about 10mm shorter from memory, so if you can see one (or the design of one) it should answer your question.

RH is fine though, yes - no change necessary.

Just be wary about sizes. If any aspect of either the shaft you've got, or the cup you're buying, has been recon'd then the cup sizes may be to big/small (or the tripode bearings to small/big). I had two good cups purchased off here and none of them fitted my shaft bearings - way too much play (that's not a criticism by the way - they weren't faulty or worn, necessarily, just differences in tolerances between runs of shafts I imagine).

In the end I had to get some custom shafts made up.

How hard are they? Wonder if I could just turn 10mm off my existing joint?

Still run a ZF btw? Work for you?

I know people who've taken 10mm off the end, yes. My concern would be if there are enough of the splines left engaged in the diff. I looked into a local company turning down the ends and extending the splines but the expense was just as much as getting the custom shafts made, so went that route.

Jury still out. It was mis-configured, it would seem, when it went in prior to the last rally and the pre-load wasn't enough. At first I thought "this is very smooth compared to the old tran-x!" but it's clear I wasn't using it to the full, because we dropped a shaft out the box (intermediate bearings - bastard things!) and there wasn't enough preload to get the car out of the stage. So it needs to come back out again and get reconfigured. Should be fine once it's set up properly.

Got to finish the linkage the other side and put my cr box in, but I had a phonecall from HR at work today saying "so what are you doing with your other 6 days holiday" so have got some time on the car now! (forgot about that holiday! lol). Happy and really enthused to get some progress made. Will be great to have the linkage done and maybe gearbox in before christmas.

Pedal box is also done properly and in now, so just need to run lines.

Cheers,

Al

Not all ZF diff's need a short shaft, the late ones got around this and used a normal Crownwheel unlike the huge ones that where made before, the alloy end cases are quite common in the scheme of things and not really a works item, just used by them on some cars

Needs a last bit of wire / hose tidying. New additions, filter plate, water hoses, alternator mount, VR sensor mount, oil pressure, oil temp, fan, loom terminations.

Just need HT leads, and a driveshaft to get here and I can get the last bits done to get it running :)

Ok, engine just needs the new sump which should be here today (thanks Anthony :D) shame I didn't get the dry sump for sale recently lol.

Just need to recheck timing, flash in my base cal I've put together and flash the can protocol and it should be good to start.
