updates time :D

 

just a small update with couple pics to look at

 

I've been putting off taking the windscreen out but my mate was round the other day and he's don't the job a few time, 5mins later and it was out, not that bad of job at all really, the rear window was worse lol

I was really pleased to see how solid it all looked, only a small amount of surface rust on the bottom corner

time for another little update :D

 

Cheers for comments by the way, i really appreciate them along with any advice :D

 

took the alarm out which i was a little scared off but still run started after i took it out so result :lol:

started removing any unnecessary wire, quite a bit of weight saving i think :lol: makes the whole thing look a bit tidyed too, at least it will when am finished :D

little update

 

Been on with the wiring loom for a while now, very time consuming thing, tidied it up and got it ready to go bk in once the engine bay is removed of rust, seam welded, and painted, cant believe there was so much weight in the wiring i removed 3.5kg of it :blink: anyway heres couple of pics :D

Well not much to update on really,

 

Just been cutting away any unneeded brackets protruding bolts and tidying the rust areas in the engine bay, its mainly the sides of the chase legs that have suffered the rust in the engine bay, the front light housing panels have suffered quite badly so I'll need to cut them out replace them, how much would i expect to paye for them?

 

I'd put some pics up but its nothing you haven't already seen so I'll white till I've done a bit more.

 

So next jobs are- replace the light panels

seem-weld engine bay

prime and paint bay

buy a engine stand and start cleaning engine up

 

Few things to keep me going :D

Well it's well past update time :))

 

Truth is I've been a little busy, the car ended up taking a back seat for a while, my wife was setting new business up and I managed to get roped in on it so that was couple months gone the we started decorating the house etc etc

 

Hope to be back to the car very soon, here are a few pic of the progress since the last posts

Then started a bit seam welding, this is the first time I've welded before so it's fare from perfect lol

Gave the engine bay a good de-greasing and general clean up to see what's what

Next I marked up the tunnel to raise it up a bit to sort the clearance problems with the mi16 manifold angle,

looks good - but you should only seam weld with small stitches (1" weld, 1" gap etc) or it will crack.

Thanks Alex, am pleased you told me that now as am about to do load more seam welding lol

 

Jus been out there on with it a bit today but the welder doesn't seem to be earthing properly so will have to see what's wrong, typical!

its not so much that it will crack, but if a crack does start it will keep going along the weld ruining the whole seam, unlike if you stich weld it'll just spoil the one inch or so.

 

 

what Rad is that? looks like a 306 one but I know they are a tad wide for a 205?

Hi welshpug

 

I see what you say about the welding, it makes sens ;)

 

It must be the 405 rad coz when I've looked they don't seem to have a header tank and rad looks jus like mine, it was one of the most annoying things on the car when I use it as my daily drive because to check or top up the water you had to lift the rad bout an inch to get the cap off, you can see what I mean in this pic

Update time :)

 

I've been really busy with work and helping my wife set a new business up, so the car took a bit of a back seat for a while.

 

Thanks to the better weather and having a bit of free time, and following all your projects on here have been a massive motivation, I've managed to get back on with the project :)

 

I started by getting the turret strengthening plates and peddle box one made up at a local engineering company.

I spent a while with the wire wheel on the grinder cleaning and the engine bay, then I gave it a good few coats of zinc primer

Wire wheel on the grinded are great tool for getting every last bit of rust out, without taking any metal off, but there a vicious little beast, I made the mistake of taking the handle off the grinder so i could get in the corners easier, it kicked back at me on a sharp edge and got wound up in my T-shirt lol

I cut a couple of rust patches out the floor where someone had jacked the car up in the past and pushed the floor up. Then went to work with the wire wheel on the grinder.

Evening all :)

 

I've got the car on its side, and I'm currently working on stripping the bottom of the car back to bare metal. I'm just looking for a bit advice on what to do with it one I have it stripped back, I'm using the magic wire wheel on the grinder :) fantastic tool!

 

My plan was to Hammerite Kurust the bad bits, zinc prime, 3M black underseal and then spray it body colour.

 

Am I doing the right thing or would you do anything different?

Little update

 

Got couple of my mate around the other day to get it tipped on it's side.

 

Took it out in the light first, that's the first bit of light it's had in couple of years lol

I flattened a length of angle iron and plug welded it to tidy the seam

Unfortunately I don't have a pic of this before I set to it with the wire wheel, but it all looked fine with the underseal and a rubber drain hole in the centre. I started to clean it out with the wire wheel and I was left with this big hole lol. So I made a bit of steel to fill it back in, I'll attach a mounting bracket for the rear bumper later

A bit of seam welding and I welded all the small hole for the old brake line and fuel lines etc

And after a good coat of Zinc182 primer

I need to finish off the inside, fit seat mount and cage mount etc before I can give the underside a skim of filler and body colour it.

 

Next job is to fit these, picked them up for £35 which I thought was quite reasonable
