Fuel Feed Connection

Ive fitted my GTi6 manifold and noticed the fuel hose from the feed on the right to the filter actually is laying against the manifold! :blink:

 

Initially I was going to keep the original pipe to the bottom of the filter and only replace the one from the top to the fuel rail, but I can't leave this close to the manifold.

 

The metal union connection, I don't have a clip on the rubber hose where it meets the union, should I? I wonder why there is a threaded connection there, if the rubber just slides over, seems a bit pointless to me, so presume there is meant to be a fuel clip. I tried to bend the hose under the servo, but this isn't ideal.

 

What I intend to do is cut 6,10 inches off the end of the metal fuel pipe and do away with the union so the end is just a few inches beneath the bulkhead and then slide some rubber hose over with a clip. This should be OK won't it? I read somewhere that 7mm pipe was mentioned from the metal to bottom banjo of the fuel filter, is that right?

 

I am going to be using 8mm from the return to the left metal hose which I thought was supposed to be 8mm and they look the same.

 

Suggestions and better ways to feed the pipes would be appreciated :)

Or should I bend the metal pipe over to the left to gain clearance :wacko: Chances are it is likely to kink.

The original hoses have a plastic liner that's shrunk over the barbs on the end fittings, that's why they don't have a clamp holding them in place.

 

I forget if the original pipes are 7mm or 8mm. I had to replace mine for an MOT, so I used 8mm copper pipe, and cut it so the end was at the bottom of the bulkhead - much easier to work on than reaching down the back of the engine. I didn't bother trying to replicate the original screw joint, I just slipped the rubber hose straight over the pipe. It's only 45psi so it won't blow off if you clamp it down properly.

Ah I didn't realise they were shrunk over. When something looks like it it's missing on a Peugeot, it probably is :lol:

 

Measured the pipe with a vernier and it takes 8mm which is good news. I just hope the banjo is the same.

 

I'l use a couple of clamps on it to be sure to be sure.

Don't use copper pipe, The fuel will interact with it

Does it actually react, or is it one of these theoretical things - like people who say not to use copper for brake pipes? Because it's been on there for 3 years and still looks like new inside.
