Hi all,

This is an overdue public thank you to Tom Fenton for all the work he put into getting my wife's 205 1.9 Gti back on the road.

It had been off the road for about two years with a 'failed' rear beam when we were finally able to get enough cash together to fix it. I've got nowhere to work on the car and after being messed around by a local garage, it came to decision time as to whether we made a last push to get it fixed or sell it.

The big issue was a new rear beam but by chance, I saw Tom advertising one of his recon units for sale. Having read the 'how to' guide on this site, I thought I'd find somewhere to work on the car and do it myself and so contacted Tom to buy his beam. During our discussions, he said that he would be happy to fit the beam so once I ran through a few other things I knew needed doing, he came up with an estimate for the work which was within our budget.

Once back at his place, Tom gave us regular updates on how he was getting on. As the car had been sitting idle for two years, we asked Tom to give it a check and he went through it with a fine tooth comb, uncovering issues we were unaware of. Inevitably, this increased the cost but he always explained the situation and, where possible, gave us options before proceeding.

The end result is that we have a car that is probably in as good a condition as when we bought it back in 1994 and I can't describe how happy we both are that it is back on the road. The last couple of years have been a bit depressing with it sat sad and neglected on the road but now, it's all smiles.

So, if you need any work carried out on your car, it would be difficut to find anyone who is more knowledgeable, meticulous and dedicated as Tom and I would have no hesitation in recommending him (his labour rate is also very reasonable).

I'd also like to thank this site for existing which made all this possible.

Andy

Tom,

It's good having the car back no matter what the weather is doing.

Been trying to find somewhere to keep the car during the week but no luck so far. I know it's a small village but we thought there would be someone with a barn we could rent!

Yes, it did polish up very well, hasn't looked this good for ages.

Once again, thanks for all your hard work.

Andy
