205 Gti 1.9 Fuel Injectors

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I was reading a post about a engine with a ticking noise + high fuel consumption.

Now my 205 has the same issue. I have looked on online at second hand replacements but was wondering;

1. Whats the difference between blue and yellow injectors (at work at the minute so can't check with one my car has)

2. Would you recommend a clean over a change to secound hand ones?

Cheers

yellow - 1.9 blue - 1.6, though only when looking secifically at 205 items, you will find many others of similar colours that can be vastly different flow rates.

definitely worth cleaning first, this will often rectify any issues.

a ticking noise however is often a cracked exhaust manifold, or a badly worn camshaft leading to wild variations in valve clearances.

Cheers mate.

The mainfold is looking pretty ropey and produces so much heat that I planned to change it anyway.

Camshaft sounds a little more serious so will get that checked out. You can only hear the ticking when the bonnet is up so i'll keep an ear out for any changes in the sound.

Isn't the manifold supposed to get hot?

You can hold a bit of paper over each part of the manifold and see if you can find any escaping gas blowing the paper

The exhaust being unusually hot won't be a problem with the exhaust itself, it is most likely to be the engine is running lean as it is the exhaust gases heating up the manifold, quite possible if you feel your injectors aren't performing properly. What makes you think it is unusually hot? How are your coolant temperatures?
