Repairing Broken Wires

Question for the electrical gurus out there: what is the best way of repairing this?-

The green wire has come off the plug right at the plug so there's not much scope for soldering. Heads into the loom toward the ECU I think so can't replace the whole thing. Also can someone tell me exactly what it does - car not running without it! (ps plugs on to the sensor below the thermostat). Wiring is not my strong point!!

Is that not one of the plugs you can open up to change the female connectors on the inside? If so just pop it open and stick a new spade connector on there a bit further down the wire.

I don't think so, it looks like the wires are moulded into the plug, grap another from the scrap yard and solder and heat schrink that on?

i would have said the same, chop another one off with a good length of wire on it and solder/heat shrink them together.

 

or cut that one off and put some small spade connectors on and plug them in individually (getting them the right way around of course)

Cut it off, take it down the breakers and get abouts plug the same, I had to change nearly every plug on mine, just got a fee bits of old loom and matched em up,

short term - crimp ends, long term find a scrapped car and nick the plug off it, solder and heatshrink on.

The lack of any 205s (or older citroens) in breakers in this part of the world is the problem. I'm thinking I'll put a new connector on the end.

That'll be your ECU temp sensor.

 

If it was me, I'd chop both wires back so they are the same length, then crimp on new terminals. But that's because I have the crimping tool and the knowledge to do it.

 

If you can find someone to lend you a ratchet crimping tool, it's dead easy to do. The only fiddly bit is removing the terminals from the plug. New terminals are not a lot of money, but if you've got to pay standard P&P from most online suppliers then it takes the piss as you'll probably pay more for the postage than the terminals. I think you can get them from Pug too, but it'll be a minimum quantity most likely, depending on how many come in a bag.

any blue plug from a later pug will do, you can get the terminals out of that plug just not as easy as some, crimp on a new pair (ensuring the wires are still long enough)

The plug is a standard Junior Timer. They are made by bosch and hence not peugeot specific. You will most likely find them on any car using a bosch ECU or even any other bosch equipment. If you want a blue one specifically it may take a little longer to find one but black ones will be abundant. You could also replace it with a Junior Power Timer connector which have a press release clip, sooo much better than trying to unclip the JT with a screwdriver only to fire the clip into the depths of the engine bay!

most on peugeots are made by AMP and will be found on Siemens and MM systems as well :)

 

theyre also used on the fog laps of many pugs/citroens.
