iirc the K20 makes 125 lbft, 200bhp the highest torque variant of the 1.9 205 makes 119..

if you look at them purely from power to weight or torque to weight ratio... you'll be able to look at them on the same page.

 

However in the current civic..

 

The rear suspension formerly a double wishbone set up has been changed to a less complex torsion beam axle.

 

so the suspension is not thad different either.

It's only the newest civic that has torsion bar and it's a big let down IMO.

its a torsion beam not torsion bar, i.e not independent, much liike most Golfs escorts fiesta's etc.

This should put paid to this whole discussion really, my short-circuit tarmac-sprint results from a few years back, Class A0 results with 2 EP3 CTR's in the class, my car (#7) was a near-as-damnit standard 1.9 GTi; (Despite what the results quote, it was actually the white Wheeler Dealer's car!)

kinda backs my point up really,Both of these cars are small cars (well as far as modern cars go seen as though there all f***ing huge now even in hatch form ) so i would expect the area where they perform best to be in the small roads, Its the nitty gritty stuff which i feel would cause the old jap scrap to under steer its nuts off and thus a gti would succeed.

 

Set aside all this i find the gti a better car in general anyway for me as its a more involved and responsive drive, my brother has always said over the years my gtis are the closest cars hes driven to his exige and any other lotus hes owned and he has a type r for a while too like i said.

 

Maybe its just me but all the people on here who find them fine under power band i do not agree at all, there so damn flat its terrible, and there terrible on petrol,oil and tyres so not for me at all.

I should point Screwloose here, because he has a 200bhp 205 and still owns a Limited Edition EP3 CTR too, but barely uses it. Funnily enough used to have an Exige too.

 

Yet i barely see the point of this thread, it's still all subjective.

Civics are massive compared to the 205gti, 205 gti's are superminis and civics are not.

 

205's wins hands down end of, the other is a Jap car ffs.

What about the old 4th Gen (circa 1990) civic 1.6iVT? Not much bigger dimensionally, and not much between them weight wise.

Can spend all day on the rev limiter and still come back for more.

Honda's rep is not as shiny as it used to be, or is that Toyota :unsure:

 

I think its more down to how new the engines are so parts for them are plentiful like the gti6 engines are to Mi's. They've never been the best looking cars compared to the 205 for instance

Jap cars love the irish woodworm, its why they get faster as they get older. Weight reduction via rot (usually boot floor in true traditional form).

naah, its because they are a stable chassis, with reasonable mechanicals and electricals and a lot of evo bits bolt on, they rust with the best of them these days.

 

anyway, proton is malaysian :lol:

Its inevitable that rust will take hold eventually but considering how old the 205 is I think its resisted the British weather and salted roads very well. Its certainly no vauxhall.

My 205 is 25 years old and is just starting to need work on the front panel and one of the rear wings.
