Do Kwikfit Still Do Free Tyre Repairs?!

Had 3 different punctures on rear tyres on my CTi when I first started using it...that was in 2003, and I expected it therefore to be an annoyingly regular occurrence. But no, never had another...until now. Discovered Kwikfit were advertising free tyre repairs, & they were indeed happy to do them...then...do they still? I did buy new tyres from them when needed, as a thank you, incidentally.

 

Returning to UK at the end of the week, so wondered if Kwikfit were still offering this free service...particularly any branches around Sherborne (Dorset).

Not that I know of, all Kwik Fit do for free is an "inspection" of dubious quality that miraculously evolves into a list of work as long as your arm and an even bigger quoted price.

I'd personally avoid Kwikfit like the plague. Find a nice friendly local tyre garage :)

Oh bum!

 

In that case, has anyone tried a repair I've been thinking of pioneering? Deflate tyre, remove screw, insert silicon sealant, enough to form a blob inside the carcase, leave to set, job done? Don't see why that wouldn't be a wizard repair.

 

My parents used to have one of the first Rover 2000s, a 1964 one. It had appalling Dunlop disc brakes, with tiny pads. They wore out quickly, so to save a few bob, I glued cardboard to the mounting plate & the worn pad material to that. It lasted...all the way to East Grinstead....when there was a bang & no brakes. Still chuffed it lasted so long. Perhaps the secret was the cardboard was top quality stuff used as backing for a First World War photo. Corn Flake packet probably would only have got as far as Kingston.

yes i know people do this but it is bad news for a tyre,a tyre is made up off layers, if you leave the screw in the end in the tyre it moves around destroying the inside which could lead to a blow out.

the stuff i sell is as good as a garage repair but if you do buy a sealant make sure it is speed rated and not just for mountain bikes.

2/ Does it leave a residue on rim, if so, is it easily cleaned off?

3/ Does it stick tyre to rim, making removal difficult?

dont know why i havnt recived any messages as theres plenty off room

but anyway

you dont need to tell the tyre fitters as it wont hurt them or explode,[but always nice to inform them anyway]it will wash off with warm soappy water and its biodegradabledoesnt stick to rim as it goes into the tyre

need to know what size tyres you have and how many you want to protect so i know how much product you need.

ideally you only want one repair per tyre max after that there definetly finished, you should really replace punctured tyres though!
