Gearbox Upgrade

Some parts I require are quite hard to come by so I thought I would start my research and try and find one early.

I specifically have been told to get an Mi16 box with a 4.429 : 1 final drive. That's 14 teeth to 62 teeth.

Anyone have any opions on this and maybe practical experience on a hill climb car.

Thanks

Jon

Not sure how much difference the mi16 box is to the s16 box of the same era, but if it is the same, I am not far from you and have one for sale.

I've had a couple, they're great for what you want, but bare in mind you'll be changing gear more frequently so some twisty circuits may not suit! Also depends on the powerplant you're using.

On a side note, you have a 1600 iirc? If so it may well be worthwhile removing the standard rev limiter as many 1.6's still have power beyond it that you may want to call upon here and there during competition, sometimes holding a gear a little longer rather than going for another is more beneficial saving you and up then down-change, just before a corner for instance.

I had been contemplating using the car for track days as well as hill climbs but I have decided to just stick to hill climbs and build the car focused on this, so the changing gear shouldn't be too bad.

It's a 1.6, completely standard at the moment, it will be modded at some point but not just yet.

Thanks for the reply's.

Jon
