Don't worry Phil, us self learners will figure it out to a poor standard I am certain.......

What you getting out of interest (and out of the fact you are only a couple of miles away from me ;) )

Are you sure I can do it without going on an exhaust-bending course? ;)

Have you ever used a mandrel bender before?

Tom - maybe use the time you would spend trolling me to go back and actually read what I've said.

Well this topic has certainly stoked up some opinions!

I've never even picked up a welder and don't have any mates with one so I'm about as big a noob as you will meet when it comes to welding. I haven't decided what to do yet and I haven't had chance to ring the college yet to discuss the detail of the course but thanks for all the advice gents, it's much appreciated :D

As you were...

Oh get over yourself, other people have a different opinion to you, and it doesn't matter how many times you state yours, they still will have their opinion. It is called life.

Probably only a rotary to do up to 2.5" in stainless, was thinking about the 3" model - but given I'm not sure where to build the new workshop yet, I didn't want a 3ph model - in case I couldn't use it until we got a line put in.

Yup, with no supervision, and I've still got all my fingers!

Well, I think I have, 8, right?

You should also have 2 thumbs. ;)

I'm sure you know but it's much like welding - easy to learn the basics, difficult to master. A lot of trial and error in setting clamp pressure and springback, BTB had a log of good settings just for those two parameters.. with all the different diameters / thicknesses it was a fairly chunky document!
