Help Please Xsara Vts Gearbox Removal

Recommended Posts

joel2005

Just starting my xsara vts into 205 conversion, and I,m slightly stuck on removing the xsara box from the engine , all the bolts etc are out but the box sticks part way out!!

I think it must be to do with the selector fork and release bearing, so could some one point me in the right direction , the release fork is still in place at the moment, thanks,Darren.

Remove the pin holding the clutch fork onto the arm. Then the arm will be able to swing around and release.

If you can't get the pin out, you can always get a bar in between the box and block and prise it off. It's a savage looking method, and there's a chance the release bearing will break where it clips onto the arm, but not an issue if you are presumably changing the clutch.

The box is now off ,I,m not that daft afterall and managed to work it out by removing the pin as chipstick said( cheers anyway though Chipstick) .

Next thing is I,m going to use the bits off my 1.9 be3 box,and am going to get the loom done by Miles, now can anyone tell me exactly what I need to swap over onto the vts box,

1/ Should I fit the mechanical drive for the speedo from the 1,9 box

2/Does the1.9 diff fit straight in or do I just swap the crownwheel

3/I know I need to fit the 1.9 fork, and selectors, but which colour bushes should I fit to the vts box( part number if possible)

4/Lastly which clutch kit do I need to buy, I,ve seen a gti6 (pull type) advertised on E-bay which I think is right.

5/ does the 1.9 clutch not fit as I have a brand new one at home

Your help is most apprieciated,cheers,Darren.

1. You need a dual electrical and mechanical one.

2. Swap crownwheel.

3. Yellow or white, I can't remember.

4. Get a BX Gti kit, easier than an Mi16 405 one as there are a few part numbers.

5. No.

I have the dual VSS's in stock but again swap the White and red speedo drive gears over or it will over read on the speedo,

Box wise I'd buy a new Cross shaft (Arm) and that will come with the correct bearings if the Parts man knows how to cross reference it, the you can use all the 205 cables etc without having to mod them.

But looking at Neats price it's come down again, I'm sure a while back it was around £35.00

Diff swap the main part to the VTS box and swap the crownwheel over, you may need some new bolts as the threads tend to strip on them. While the diff is out the top selector arm is easy to swap over as you can keep the main pin in place with your finger.

The VTS bushes should be white. I have found anything after the mid 90's was white.

Rule of thumb is, replace what it had with like for like.

Thanks chipstick, the next thing is my local scrappy has a 97 306 xsi in ,, As I have the xsara phase 2 engine to go into my 205 the loom and ecu are useless , so I have now bought a 98 gti6 loom and harness but I need some sensors to suit this loom, Question is are the xsi ones suitable?? and is there anything else worth robbing off this car??

the temperature ones are suitable, as are the oil pressure switches, plus the knock sensor, I think the other sensors are the same as the gti6?

Thats cool so most of the sensors will fit, they also have a more or less complete 205 cab in there as well , anything worth robbing off either of these??

CTi.

Will be a 1.6

Essentially a GTi, but convertable.

They didn't make a 1.9 CTi as far as I know?
