should be a 3pin(?) green plug for the knock sensor, yes it should have one! could also be my problem but mine does have one at the moment. any information on if these can break? im guessing these need to make contact with the block (no paint underneith etc?)

AFAIK to test it you can tap it with a spanner whilst the engine is running. If its working the revs should change.

just fitted the knock sensor, its a different car!! runs better, although a bit rough on idle, which i think is down to the idle control valve, but other than that i'm well happy, no more hesitation, no bogging down, she flys, thanks for all the help guys :)

glad you got it sorted in the end, but a general rule of thumb is if there are connectors left over then you are probably missing something! I'm not sure why you would have unscrewed it from the block in the first place.

Anyway, change the oil now as if it has been over fuelling, there is a good chance it will have thinned the oil and you could get bore wash etc.

And if you haven't already done so, wire in the engine check light (aka K-light) which would (or certainly should) have been brightly lit with a missing knock sensor.

I had the battery disconnected while I fitted it. Any more details on the check light?
