Damn clutch cable snapped and had to be recovered...costing me £163!

Gunna have a go at replacing the clutch cable tomorrow, how hard a job is it? Looks a bit fiddly but simple enough.

Anyone else wanna share pics of their 205 abit worse for ware? ;)

Happened a few times to me. I usually turn the car off put it in 2nd and drive without using the clutch, you just have to get the revs right, it's not hard to fit, but most factors get the cable wrong, so take ya old cable wih ya

Easy job

30 mins.

Don't buy the cable from GSF - get a proper one from Pug.

Miles

As said the OE cable's are only around £28.00, Pattern ones work but not as good or last as long.

But driving without a clutch is a pain, done it from the Centre of Reading before so lots of looking like a right **** from the lights and roundabouts but made 80 odd miles with ease

Should have just crash boxed it!

A 2nd hand box is cheaper than the recovery!!

Although that said, setting off is a little undignified lol

Not very nice when those sorts of things happen! I take it you don't have any breakdown recovery, a bit silly when you own a 205! :P

Not quite the same circumstances as you, as tihs was all planned but here's my old girl looking a bit worse for ware!

No.

205's are as reliable as you want them to be, no less than any other car.

You could've just driven it home! :P

FYI; 'Ware' is a village up the road and it has a building 'site'. ;)

I guess i could have drove it home, but i've never driven without a clutch before and it was rush hour so was easier (and alot more £££) to get it recovered.

Thanks for the info on the car Henry! :) Sounds great in that vid.

Well I'm off to get my hands dirty.

Alternator regulator fail> boiled battery> overflow onto ignition amp> took out one sided of wasted spark and only ran on 2 cylinders and caused the cat to glow red with unburnt fuel being pumped into it!.

And oddly enough with the previous owner of your car in the green overalls in the pic too!

Pretty original car from memory, but was a touch multi-coloured. Only mods were the exhaust and it is running a 309 wishbone front setup. My brother used it briefly in auto testing and it won its first event. The Curborough videos will show it going hard into some of the corners and coming out almost backwards!

Just a tip if it happens again

1.With the car off put it in 1st

2.When the its safe to do so turn the car over and give it a small blip of throttle this should get you going again

3.When the revs are correct change up

Rinse/repeat those steps when at junctions, traffic lights etc

Haha.

Great video the Curborough one! Some nice car control. :)

Was the car paint work badly faded back then? The previous owner had it re-sprayed a few years ago.

I didn't know it had 309 wishbones, It's also had a 309 rear beam fitted at some point too. Handles very nicely anyway.
