205 Gti Motronic Cutting Off I Low Revs

Recommended Posts

Goran

I have a problem for last few months... When the engine gets warm, when i let off the gas pedal or i cruise in low revs just gently pushing the gas pedal, the engine starts to cut off.

I have to start from 1st gear with a lot of throthle so it wouldnt cut off..

it's motronic...i had a brand new o2 sensor so i tried changing it, and it made no difference... going to try tomorow with the AFM but i doubt it will help..

anyone with an idea what's wrong?

When something like that happened to me it turned out to be the HT leads...

Or distributor cap and rotor arm.

would't it there be cutting of all the time, and not just in low revs only?

You never know for sure with the ignition system.

I've once had it cutting out in wet weather, due to dirty connection of the ECU relay.

Then the other time I've had it cutting out when the engine is warmed up, due to the dizzy.

i got some spare amps i will try to change it, and the distributor cap

btw... where is the ecu relay located? with the fuses?

One of the green relays in the upper right corner of the photo (the other is for the horn ).

No , the green ones inside the engine bay are - Injection supply relay , and horn relay ... the fuel pump relay is inside , under the dash near the ECU .. as said can be brown or yellow on Motronic car (yellow more common for 205 GTi , brown for 405 Mi16)

Theres no such thing as ECU relay .. as far as i know ?!

Ah yes, you're correct. There's only a red fuse for the ECU. Though I did hear the ECU clicking when I've had it going on .

Got it all a bit mixed up, dealing with different engines all the time .

I had a similar fault, it turned out that the Coil had aged & the epoxy cracked, there was a small spark jumping out just under the coil where it couldnt be seen..

It was intermittant for a while, until it happened to me late at night. That was when I spotted the Arc, a faint flicker in the darkness under the coil.
