Pictures Of Your Engine Bay Inner Wings Wanted.....

Recommended Posts

jamesc

Trying to get back into 205 ownership but am finding it very difficult to find a straight, genuine & rust free example..... who ruined them!

I have found a fairly good example, needs some finishing but could be mint, however, the engine bay inner wings are not quite as I remember them. Could some of you post close up pictures of your own cars?? Car is a 92 H.

I remember them being rivit and join free?? I have done a search but can't find any close up's....

One other thing, did peugeot paint the boot floor (inside) properly, front to back or was it just blown over with primer showing near the seats? I know these questions seem a little strange but this car is strong money and I want to make sure it's as it should be!

Thanks in advance

Boot and under seats should be painted. In fact I think the entire floor is painted. I think it's just the inside panels - hidden behind the plastic trim - that is not top coated.

Thanks for the reply's, unfortunately they all point to this car being slightly less original than i'd hoped.

The boot floor on my silver 205 only had primer and my mates red one the same. Yet my mates white rallye the floor is painted.

I had about 6 205's and all those were painted inside the boot, the boot had hardly any rust compared to the holey ones iv seen on here. Thats PH1 to PH2.

That's my '92 black Phase 2 which as you can see, is not completely painted on the boot and barely any on the passenger compartment floor

My '89 white Phase 1.5 does appear to be painted throughout however.

(but to blow Surgie's hypothesis out of the window, the unpainted Phase 2 black one had no rust, yet the painted Phase 1.5 was starting to rust)

It's completely random as to whether the floors were painted, just seems to be whether or not the painter could be bothered.

What do you think of this?

Looks like someone has just put seam sealer down the edge. Could either be a bodge to cover rust, or to prevent it.

You need to get your head in the arch and look up and see if the seam is still protected. It looks like mine had rotted from the inside down by rain running down the inner wing and then the panels seperating.

Yeah, that plate near the turret isn't standard.

I wouldn't worry. They are getting long in the tooth now, and as long as the repairs have been done to a decent standard then don't worry. Look from under the wheel arch at whether it has been sorted both sides or patched on to make it look better from the bay.

You should see the plate that was welded over my inner wing. It was to cover the problem, not to sort it. Then they seam sealered the whole thing and it cracked, and got dirty. It was horrible

I'l upload a pic later. You will soon realise you have nothing to worry about there.

Can't be worse than the "repair" job that was done on mine (first page).. I'd be very surprised if anyone had one worse than that!

Granted, it's not as bad as that. The actual rot on mine was a fraction of the atrocity that they covered it with. The offender probably thinks like the person who did yours though. No treatment at all, just covered a problem with a bigger one which was only going to get much worse

At the moment there is nothing to say that rot right up to the engine mount would be a failure. IIRC they 'supposed' to be bringing something in about this next year. Currently it's points near seat/belt fastenings and sharp points.
