What's This Then?

The 207 GTi turbo we have in the showroom sits next to my desk, I was looking at it earlier and noticed the rear caliper has a weird disc thing on the back of the top slider. What is it!?!??

looks like a anti vibration counter attenuator..

like the big rubber noddys on the 206`s

adds a mass that vibrates in opposite phase to the caliper slider, cancelling out any vibrations...

..................

or it could be something else........... lol........ thats my guess anyway

Is it something to do with the abs, traction control, or a simple anti rattle device. It could be some sort of servo device that lets out any air, so a self bleeding caliper ?

Just asked a PSA consultant technician and his reply was "Oh yeah, i've seen those on C4 Picassos!" "Right, so whats it for?" "f*** knows, just seen them!"

So much for bloody consultant technicians!

Something to do with the electronic handbrake?!

ServiceBox calls it a 'Caliper Shim' so probably something to do with pre-load, or some sort of position setting device for the handbrake I reckon ;-)

The auto handbrake is a neat idea.

My mums old insignia had it, you'd pull up to the junction and when the car became stationary let off the brake. It wouldn't roll as the auto handbrake would hold the vehicles weight until you wanted to move again. Neat touch.

It's not gonna be a mass damper IMO, they generally have to be a lot larger than that to make any sort of NVH difference, especially to a large component such as the brake assembly.

How does it attach to the calliper?
