Air Filter Location

Recommended Posts

jonb_5

Hi

I just wondered if someone could point out the difference why some 205's have the air filter wrapped around the engine going to the back and others have it running along the front.

Was this just standard for different models or is it a modification you can do to move it to the front away from the hot exhaust.

If it is a mod can someone direct me to a how to?

Thanks

Jon

I always thought the car went and sounded better with the original air box and a decent filter in it compared with an induction kit.

I have my air filter here (see below) due to the supercharger setup.... I always thought that it would end up being a warm air in take, with it sucking in air for the engine bay, it seems not. I did some tests with a thermocouple inside the air filter, and its seems that if the car is moving even quite slowly air into the filter is around the outside air ambient temp. Its a totally different story if you stop, as soon as you stop moving the temp inside the filter goes straight up!

I can't comment on how well the OE system works - but I thought I'd share the results of my little test.

the standard setup is bend pipe from the thottle body then air flow meter facing towards the bulk head of the car another bend pipe which the air box connects to and bolts to the cyclinder head thats basicly it

To be honest i have always hated how my air fliter sits which is a K&N and it annoys me to death that it has to be rammed into that little gap between the battery and the headlight its only a small filter but still it finds sumut to grab on the way in

May I suggest you to relocate the battery to the boot, then you will have plenty of room for the air-flow meter and the filter. Also, you may consider to fabricate your slam panel so that it ramp more cold fresh air to the filter.

here is what i did a few years ago.
