Any Quick Solution To Get Rid Of Rust And Prevent It

Recommended Posts

The area under the rear seat got a small patch of rust, very minor. I am wondering will this Wurth Rust Guard work? Or has anyone tried it before?

It seems extremely simple even for me.

It might slow it down but unless you remove all traces of rust it will come back.

I'd remove it with a flap wheel or similar in a grinder / drill.

Kurust or similar to convert any remaining rust.

Zinc primer.

Paint.

If you feel it's exposed (under the seats isn't really!) then a coat of waxoyl.

That's pretty much what I've always done with rust and it works well.

I do not have access of those such as grinder, so may be sanding the rust off with sand paper is the way to start.

I haven't seen any Kurust and Waxoyl here in Hong Kong before but Wurth has a dealer on this side of planet. Will browse around if I can find something cheaper (Wurth is EXTREMELY expensive!!!) and similar.

I guess sandpaper will do it with a bit of work!

You just need to get some kind of rust converter, they must sell it somewhere.

I'm not sure how much it would work out but I'd be more than happy to buy you one of the small tubs and post it to you for cost price.

I can get it for £3 HERE The waxoyl isn't really needed under the seats.

Remember that the rust you see under the seat starts underneath the car and goes upwards - by the time it's visible under the seat, it's already pretty bad and something like Kurust isn't really going to achieve much in my opinion. The rust originates where there's two overlapping panels and moisture works its way into the seam, rusting away until it comes through underneath the seat, eventually forming a hole.

Thank you very much for your offer.

Will sending something in liquid form to oversea be an issue (especially after 911)?

In my experience, if there is rust under the seats then there is usually be far more under that area where the fuel tank is. When i sorted mine by completely removing the rust totally, it ended up having far more than it looked at first. Rust converters are pretty useless tbh, not worth the time or money.

Frost sell a similar type of paint, its called POR15 rust paint and i like it a lot. Iv not used it on the car or tested it for a long time but iv only used it for the strut tops till i buy new ones. This paint which i think is similar to yours is very very hard when dry and really smooth, eventually it might re-rust but not as quick as so called rust converters, they dont convert they cover the steel cancer. I used kurust on my windscreen pillar about 2 years ago and as im repainting the engine bay round about now, i had a go at removing it and it was more rusty than it was before i applied it.

hmmm, it seems fishy. Perhaps I should get some professional to take a look first.

Thank you all for pointing me the issue (but sad if it's really true).

Could just be surface rust if your lucky,if the windows or something have been letting rain/water into the car and its sat under seat.

Bilt Hamber Deox C gel is VERY good for removing rust.

Rust Bullet is a very good paint. :)

As above, on my rallye it had rusted from above due to leaking in water, when I took the tank off it was very clean under there! You might be lucky I guess.

Have a look underneath to see whats under there.

It wont have started under the seat.

A wire wheel on a drill would get rid of that.

That just looks like surface rust, but rust is evil & it can lurk any where.

You see where the sealant is, well i got rid of that with a drill and wire brush, which has trapped water between the panel and sealant which is the main cause of 205's rusting. It ended up being cut out and a new piece of steel welded in. Mine had none of the surface looking rust you have there. That could be down to the rear quarter badges letting water through its locating pin holes, i use some flexible sealant to stop that happening.

Underneath is a water trap between fuel tank and body, im about to zinc prime and stone chip that hole area in a week or two.

Check you rear window seals too, they could be leaking as well.
