205 Gti6 - Temp - Fans Kicking In

Recommended Posts

djinuk

I have a 205 gti6 conversion, ive not took it on the road yet, however the thing that worries me a little is the fans seem to kick in slightly late.. the picture shows just after the temp that the fans kick it, it seems to maintain temp but only just.

I have no low/high speed fan resistor , could this be why?

Been a long time since I've driven a GTI, but from memory that looks approx right for the fans to kick in. Not having the resistor just means that the fans will come on at fulll speed when they'd usually come on a low speed.

Assuming that the wires have been joined together of course - if the resistor is simply unplugged thus leaving an open circuit, the fans won't come on at all when they should run at low speed, and you'll have to wait until it heats up even more before they'll come on at high-speed.

This is about where my twin fans come on, I too seem to think this is too high!

6' engine does like to run hot in a 205, big engine in a little car thus my car doesn't like traffic. Think I will be fitting a slim line one soon.

Are you using the orig Gti6 coolant sender for gauge?

If so its because they are slightly incompatable with the 205 Gti coolant gauge,so in other words your engine is not really that hot ;)

If you want your gauge to read correctly fit your old sender from your 8v into the Gti6 thermo housing.(Needs drilling and tapping though I think)

ah i have removed the resistor but not joined the wires.. that would explain, so basically when low speed comes on.. well its not doing anything... hence it waits until it gets to the next bar.. also i am running the gti6 coolant sensor..

spot on cheers guys, love this forum with straight to the point responces :)

I had twin fans on a uprated alloy rad in my 309 with Gti6 conversion and the gauge still read high, due to the sender.
