Missing Gears

Recommended Posts

Dylan l

I have a be4 gearbox that will not select 5th and reverse. I have fitted a lsd to it but have not had it apart.

We have tried locating gears by hand but it just seems to lock out.

I tried doing the same to a be3 and can move the one selector and the other moves to accommodate 5th or reverse.

Is there anything I can check before I take it out?

Did you touch/change the selector arm? Losing 5th and reverse is what happens if you let the selector shaft drop when changing the arm over...

We did change the selector and it did slide down into the box,but not that far.

Box out time then.

what's the procedure for repair after i take the box out?

Thanks for the replies

If you're lucky/patient, you can just remove the selector arm, lower the selector shaft back into the box slightly and jiggle it about until it lines up again.

I've never tried it, but it should be possible to do with the gearbox still fitted in the car if you're enough of a contortionist.

Can be done on the car, just abit of blind fishing.

You can take the diff cover off, remove crown wheel and feel towards the top of the inside of casing.

The bottom of the lever/fork is there and you can pop it back in

No need to take box off

Got the Gear box out and opened it up to see what to line up and saw it strait away.

If it happens again I might have a pop at blind fishing.

Thanks for the replies

any chance of describing what I'm trying to rectify, I have the arm off again after it did drop down whilst changing the lever over. I have welded a bolt to the top of the shaft so can push the shaft up and down.

Any fishing clues would gratefully be appreciated
