Piper 270 Cam Marking Numbers

Recommended Posts

Paul_13

Evening,

My mate has a set of piper 270 cams supposedly, has any body got the markings/numbers which are on the cam to confirm this.

We have on the inlet:

37 28 1

Exhaust:

37 98 2

32208h050204 on the end of the inlet

32314h49n822 on the end of exhaust

Some of the numbers/letters are hard to read.

they sound like standard numbers, not sure specifically what piper's markings will be, but they'll usually have the code on the end so you'll be looking for something like GTI6BP270H

Hmmm will have a look in the morning in better light.

Does confirm suspicions though.

Cheers

Ok, thanks for the info.

The whole casting looks like the same as the standard cams. Numbering in the same place and etching in the same place on the end of the cam.

I think he's been had.

Along with the rest of the car.

Could they be regrinds? I think Pug Performance did work on the car.

Regrinds will still usually have some kind of stamp/marking on the end of the cam.

You can normally tell on the lobe if they have been ground, it leaves the centre darker normally, But they have always had the numbers stamped in on the cam belt pulley end

Measure the base circle of the cams, std is roughly 38mm iirc, 36mm would suggest a regrind.

These are some unknown regrinds which I have, I suspect they may be Piper as the head came with Piper verniers.

You could also measure the max and min diameter of the cam lobes to establish whether the lift is greater than the std amount of 9.9mm.

There is a 'B' stamped on each cam and a notch has been ground out opposite the keyway.
