Slimline Fans, How Good?

Recommended Posts

matthewm

Looking at getting a 12inch slimline fan, which is an 80watter. How do these compare to the OE 205 fan for cooling purposes?

Sure the standard fan is a fair whack more than 80 watts, is it that the aftermarket fans are more efficient, or that they are s*ite!

Thanks

I've got a Pacet(sp?). It kicks the standard fan's arse in terms of cooling - far more efficient. And we're talking a competition car here - gets seriously warm in there!

My slimline one is fine. Not sure if mine is a 12" or 10" but good enough for my car. My fan draws about 5A.

Out of interest can you wire aftermarket slim line fans into the original low/high speed wiring?

Cheers, Ali (sorry for the hijak )

forgive my asking, do you use the original cowling or you have to ditch it?

Thanks

Ditch it and use the special zip-ties to attach it to the rad, it's far tidier! Also, fans work much better as "suckers" rather than "blowers" (oo-err) so attach them to the back of the radiator if you have space.

My personal feeling is ditch the resistor and just have the fan comming in on full power at the lower temp, thats what I've done with mine.
