Magnex 4 Branch Issues

Recommended Posts

205_sunderland

Ive fitted my new 4 branch over the weekend and having a few problems with clearance issues. It touches the subframe, and i mean touches not just rubs. It literally rests on the subframe at all times except when it bangs on start up from movement. It is touching on the frame itself not just the support bar so im stumped how its so far out and looking for ideas to get it right?

All i can think of is some heat on a ramp but im worried if i start bending it, ill do damage and crack it

any ideas

cheers mick

Check you don't have an extended lower mount fork & the condition of the top engine mount and it's buffers, you could space the rear one a little to force the engine to tilt forward a little in turn bringing the exhaust up a little.

The mounts are all recent new BBM (except for the bottom which i havent fittted yet) and the car did have an mi16 in before this engine, can you get longer forks or would it be welded and obvious to spot? the longer fork would push it out that little bit more though i agree so i hope it is the case and not a dodgy mani

There is slight variations in forks IME yes although not massive. If it was an Mi converted car before it'd make sense, i'd expect it to be obvious but you never know!

Extended bottom fork would make sense as that's typically how most (bodged) Mi16 conversions are done.

The manifold certainly fitted perfectly on the car that it was removed from, with no touching and no marks on the subframe when removed.

French tolerances are somewhat dubious and there can be a significant difference between shells that's highlighted with variations in exhaust and pedal box clearances on 16v conversions, but I haven't heard of issues with 8v Magnex's and thus is seems logical that it's something specific to do with your car that's causing the issue, with an extended lower fork being a likely candidate.

i should have read that more clearly, i would say in that case it could be the length of the rear rubbers being used to mount it, if the fork is not the answer :)

i looked at the car when i had it on the ramps and in looked normal i must say but ill have to have another look. And i fitted the 4 branch before id fitted anything else so it cant be down to rubbers
