[car_upgrade] My 205 Cti Gti6 Project

Recommended Posts

ellis

Hi guys, im new to the forum and thought id share my project with anyone that is interested. The story started 12 mths ago when i brought my first house, my pride and joy subaru impreza type r v-limited had to go up for sale to get a deposit together for a great house we found. This left me needing a cheap car to get around in. Haveing had many 205's i knew this is the car i wanted to keep me atleast half happy. Never did i think back then id become as attatched to the car as i have now. I was very lucky to come across a cheap cti, 1988 f reg with only 106,00 miles, 3 owners and a load of history, 12mths mot and 6 mths tax. After a chat with the old fella that owned it to my supprise he told me i could have it for £350 and he would fill up the tank with petrol for that aswell. Bargin. Me and my da travelled 5 hours to collect this car and then 5 hours back, by the time id got it home id fallen in love with my cheap little bargin. Anyway it didnt take me long to get my teeth into it, got some cheap wheels, did a spot of lowering and replaced a few bits and bobs that looked tired. After a few mths it looked tike this.

After reading way to many projects i got jelous and decided it was time to get a bit naughty. Looking thro ebay i found a plug and play gti6 engine conversion that spikey was selling. Im sure he is well known on this site. Got a friend of mine to collect for me and ended up with it ready for me to play with :)

I started to strip it down, do a bit of cleaning and painting ect while it was out of the car.

After a good strip down and some paint ect the engine was as i wanted it.

The bottom pulley was looking a little old so thought id sort that aswell before it went into the car

28052011264.jpg

Then came the fun part, getting the old donkey out, just get stuck in i find is the best way.

After a clean up of the engine bay it was time to get the new engine on its mounts. I had cut and rewelded the exhaust mani to avoid haveing to tilt the engine.

02062011282.jpg

With the engine on its mounts i decided to get the tig welder out and make myself a downpipe

After a weekends hard graft it was all in and running. Had a few teething problems but nothing too bad atall realy.

04062011295.jpg

Air filter was a bit squashed in the bay so again out came the tig welder and i made myself this

09062011309.jpg

Decided then to fix my leccy windows that hadnt worked since the day i got the car, ripped them out and replaced them with manual ones.

11062011333.jpg

After the engine had been in and running well for a few weeks i got board and started playing again, was time to make a header tank, as the original realy let the bay down

Much better, worked a treat and looked great, i even made a few more and sold them on ebay, maybe a few off here have got them?

Up my local car boot sale i found a nice strut brace , the chap said had come off a fto, it was alloy, very strog and light and only £5 so i took a risk on it and brought it. After an hour playing around with it, the end result was great, looks like its made for the pug :D

15072011457.jpg

And there ya have it, as you can see by now im a big fan of a bit of fabricateing, saveing myself a few ££ and makeing something a little differant :)

Also got my hands on this set of bonnet lifters off a friend who was breaking a vauxhall calibra. Fitted a treat.

The engine and these mods have been in and on for some time now, the car is going great and im so pleased with it and im so attatched to the car that im going all out now on the bodywork, haveing every dent removed ( it had a few ) im also refurbing all the plastic trim, putting new red stripes on the car, ive brought some posh new alloys and just makeing it a little bit special. Will post some more pics up later :)

Nice CTI and it seems you're pretty handy with a welder :).

Does it have original front seats in as they look like 306 seats?

cheers mate, been wleding 10 years now, does come in handy when i want to make something. The seats are out of a 309 goodwood, they were a bargin considering they are in very good nick, just had to do some more welding to get them to fit. It was in need of them tho, the originals were real worn and the chap had put black flame job seat covers over the top lol lets just say i didnt drive around with the roof down while they were on :D

Time for an update guys. My plan is to build a good fuel system, not only to look posh ( im a tart :D ) but also to support good power as i plan to supercharge next year.

Fist off i brought a spare fuel rail off ebay and started to chop away.

A little bit of finishing, welding, cleaning off ect, then welded on some fittings, a splash of paint and my new fuel rail was complete, im quite happy with how it turned out.

Also i brought spare doors which ive had fully repaired, all dents ect taken out and now these are sat in my spare room waiting for when the car is painted.

I love the Lensos as I have looked at these before. It will be interesting to see if the lips stay shiny over time or if the lacquer will peel. But they are such a nice shiny silver and cheaper than BBS's

My plan is to keep them clean, even washing them daily if i have to over the winter, hopefuly this will keep them nice. I got the wheels a bargin, they were only 3 weeks old so the tyres were as new so were the wheels, and i gave £300 for them. The same wheel packege would have cost £600 new.
