driving along and suddenly the guage has stared flickering reading high then normal then high again, was going to look at the connection on the engine but not sure which one it is, is it the blue plug or is that the ecu temp sensor.?? or is it one of the 2 spade end ones.?? was going to try a different sender aswell

Flicking high momentarily sounds like the wiring is grounding to earth, likely either shorting against the block or through a faulty sender.

 

The sender for the gauge is the shorter of the two with spade connectors on the back of the thermostat housing (assuming it's an 8v)

yep, sorted it :D was the spade end that was a bit loose on the sender
