Just asked mum about this :D

Triumph Herald in 77-78

I was born in 81 so vaugely remember tyhe following cars.

Morris Minor 78 - 96 (sat rusting for about 7-8 years!)

Mk2 Cortina, Can't remember what years these were about, was also sat in the garage for ages.

Renault 12.

Hillman Hunter, mid 80's

Peugeot 305 GR 1.5 Estate in Red.

Peugeot 505 GTI Familiale estate, from 91 to 97

Silver 305 Estate for bits around 95-97.

Parents separated and my dad went on to have a few naff renault meganes due to an uncle owning a renault dealership in Cerrig Y drudion.

mum then had;

Light Blue phase 1 305 Estate, 1360cc chain drive engine 4 speed, no brakes, engine seized after moving down from North to South wales.

MK3 Transit SWB semi high roof 120, 2.5 DI, pre banana, second row of seats but no side windows! Sprayed Red by owner of Barry Bus Company for us :D had that from 98 to 2001.

405 GLX TD Estate, on an M reg bought for £1200 from a scrappy, had 170k on the clock and a slight leak form the fuel pump, 10 years on its just on its second engine at 302k miles, still on its original turbo!

I remember my teachers in secondary school having a few cool cars, RE+Drama teacher had a red 1.6 gti, Home economics teacher had a hase 1 306 DTurbo S with the SP spoiler, would have been brand new at the time, Biology Teacher had a Brand new Phase 2 405Mi16 in white, Chemistry teacher was pissed when he rocked up with it as he has a Mondeo SI

And one of my school mated older brother ewas in the TA and had a phase 1 1.9 gti in black, classic 90's mods on it, blue trim stripes laguna splitter magnex and allsorts, drove that thing bloody hard!

Here we go - Quite bland really.

Morris Traveller - his first car

Triumph Toledo

Triumph Toledo - I, know, not another....

Triumph Dolomite 1500 TC. Twin carbs - yeah! This was 1978, and I was 2 years old. Turned out he wanted a new Dolomite Sprint, but it was too pricey.

Cavalier Mk2 1.6 GL in Gold - Matching velour! Company car

Cavalier Mk2 1.6 GL in metallic blue. Company car B685DGD

Renault 25 Monaco. E491YGB This was his favorite, and a departure from British! Had a few touring holidays across europe in this one.

Cavalier 2.0i GL. J577VDC Actually was a good car - I liked the gruff sounding 8v engine, and it was 'quite' quick.

Rover 820i K224WEA - This was definitely an error. Bring back the Renault 25.........

Volvo S80 2.4 - A wallowing barge of beige. Retired with this one, but wrote it off at 1 year old. First ever crash

Passat 2.0 Highline. Bland but quite well kitted out.

Saab 9-3 Aero 2.0T Anniversary 2007. There must be something that said - I'm 70, I need a turbo in my life. Still has this, but I can see a decent spec Golf looming

Ones I can remember:

Mk3 X reg escort in biege, apparently a good car

Mk4 escort E...EAS in blue bought new, interior repeatedly filled with water and the auto-choke failed. Got rid of after 6 months. I remember many afternoons playing with the lego set at the dealers!!

Toyota Corolla 1.3 estate in white F896 OAS, bought new great car ferrying us around for many years. Sold privately at 110k miles with a slightly smoky engine, lived on locally for a couple of years after that.

Mazda 626 estate in blue V654 KLG, imported new (to save money!). Very comfy, learnt to drive in this. Sold after repeated ABS sensor problems.

Toyota Avensis estate in green W984 NUF, bought at 1 year old, great car sold privately and still on the roads with 140k+. My dad nearly binned it on a forest track going to watch a rally.

Toyota Avensis estate in blue TN07 ??? Bought at 1 year old. Diesel barge. Mum's daily driver.

Toyota Yaris 1.0 in silver 05 plate. base model, takes regular abuse from my dad. utterly reliable

In my 27 years I've owned more cars than my parents in the same time!

1936 Triumph Gloria ...only memory is pushing KLG spark plug tins up & down the wings & running boards, playing trains. Annoyingly still have the tins, wish I had the car.

1938ish Wolseley

1954ish Hillman Minx

1960ish Vauxhall Victor

1965 Austin 1100...yuk

1964 Rover 2000....a truly dreadful car, classic status then and now. Why?! Absolute & utter total pig to work on, incredibly slow & really bad handling. Unbelievably, without letting me know, they replaced that with....

1976 Rover 2200....more of the same, only this was a BLMC built one, so the bean counters had been in. By this time we had a caravan, a very heavy Viking Fibreline. That introduced us to the delights of snaking. Particularly memorable is being sideways & occupying all 3 lanes of the M4. We bought a stabiliser, which unbelievably actually stopped the snaking. Unfortunately the manufacturers stated once set up, it never needed re-tightening. But of course, it did. Going downhill in France, you needed to be doing 50 + mph to make sure you didn't end up climbing the other side in 1st gear. So...pedal to the floor, & it stubbornly wouldn't go any faster. Stupid ribbon speedo ribbon had stuck. It freed...& we were doing 80+. And snaking. Pundits said you have to be brave & accelerate through it. They were wrong...in the end all I could do was jamb the brakes on & hope. The whole lot spun, & we ended up facing the wrong way in the central reservation. Just as well the French hadn't installed the armco still at the roadside...would have hurt a lot if they had. Eventually discovered it was the de dion rear suspension....not designed with towing in mind, so very easy for the towed item to take over the steering. If you want to know what snaking is like, just imagine some very strong invisible mad person has decided to steer the car, & nothing you do makes any difference.

Insisted their next car was a Mercedes, if they expected me to maintain it...so the next car was

1975 Mercedes 280CE...what a car. In my view, Mercedes aren't quality cars, they're just cars built the way all cars should be built. This towed the caravan as if it wasn't there. Performance was fantastic, especially kickdown! A joy to work on as well.

2 x Ford Corina estate: one blue one brown irrc.

Montego estate in red.

Vauxhall Cavalier CDi in gold: Inherited from my grandfather. Literally every time I went in this as a kid, I threw up... we didn't have it long...

Peugeot 505 estate in silver: 7 seater nicknamed the "back-back" by me and my sister

Peugeot 504 or 505 saloon in gold: It was one or the other, I don't remember it on the road but I used to play in it as a kid and it lived on the driveway in one piece.

2 x Ford Escort XR3i: one mk3, one mk4, both in black. My mum used to hammer these around everywhere.

Citroen BX 19 GTi 8v in red

2 x BX 19 16v's in black: a P1 and a P2. These also got thrashed everywhere they went in my mum's hands. :D

Escort van & X reg Astra van, both my dad's work horses for a while

'98 Nissan Almera 1.4 Si 5 door in black: This became my 2nd car and the one I sold to buy my 306

307 SW 2.0 auto in silver: My dad's after he sold me the Almera, his only car after my mum passed.

207 CC 1.6 Auto in silver: Dad's current car. He put the money from selling the 307 towards the mobility costs and otherwise got this for free with delivery miles on the clock. Not a bad car really, but the fly-by-wire throttle and auto gearbox are horrendously unresponsive to drive - the same Porsche tiptronic 4+1 speed setup as the 307 had

Alot of commonality here and a pleasing number of Alfas! My Grandpa had a Rootes dealership in the 70s to early 80s (Chrysler latterly), so we alot of P/Xs from that. His own cars were more my thing generally. But roughly our cars were:

Late 70s:

Hillman Avenger Estate

Hillman Hunter GLS

80s:

Chrysler Alpine (OCO498T)

Alfa Romeo Alfasud 1.5 (major departure for us and had fibreglass wings at 3 years old)

Talbot Sunbeam 1.6, latterly 1.3 after engine change (YHP499X)

Ford Sierra 1.6L (seemed very modern when we got it and ended as the first car I crashed, early 90s) (B225PAD)

90s:

Ford Sierra 2.0 GLS twincam (seemed really quick at the time) (G495AGL)

Citroen BX TZD

Peugeot 106 1.5D (their first new car) (N534HAF)

00s

Audi A3 1.9 TDI (hateful, massively overrated car IMO)

Honda Civic 2.0 Type-S (car I suggested and liked alot, looking for one now. They didn't like it, prefer diesels)

Audi A3 2.0 TDI newer shape (big improvement on the last one, but still very dull)

Audi A3 1.6 TDI (bizarrae downgrade from their last one, dealer probably laughed heartily and got backslapped my his mates for that; seemingly no better on fuel and the 60+mpg combined claim is a test quirk as far as I can tell, it won't do that at steady 56mph)

My Grandpa was a life long car nut and much more of an inspiration to me. My earliest memories are of his series of P6 Rovers, culminating with the V8 and his close friend's Triumph 2500. He couldn't stomach the SD1 and strangely took on a couple Fiat Mirafioris (5 speed!! Coo!) then a gift Nissan Cherry, despite being very opposed to Jap metal. A car friend dealer talked him into an original hatch Honda Accord and that was followed by two Ballades that saw him out; a thorough Honda convert by the end. When I got my first company car in 1999, I chose the then new Accord 1.8iS, which he admired massively and got me to drive him round to his friends all afternoon in it, one of our last moments together :)

Where do I start???

My father was in the motor trade for 25 years and sold everything from Lada's to Rolls Royce.

The first car I remember my mother having was a black Austin A40, then several other memorable vehicles 'borrowed' or purchased as trade in's from my dad's places of work such as Heralds, Beetles, Viva's.

I remember my dad bringing home/ using a few of the following:

Talbot Rancho; Opel Record, Monza, Senator, Ascona, Kadette; Austin Princess, Maxi, Marina, Ambassador...

No wonder I love cars.

No idea on the dates, but I'll try and get this in as accurate order as possible from the earliest one's I remember::

Citroen CX estate

Citroen BX estate

Mini

Citroen BX

Golf GTI 8v mk2

Morris Minor Traveler (never driven other than the journey home to restore it but it had been a seaside car and was wrotten)

Citroen 2CV (mum)

Rover of some sort

Ford Escort

Fiat Uno (Rio de Janeiro) learnt to drive at 14 in this within closed compound gates

Opel Astra (or whatever it was called) estate (also in Rio)

Rover 216

Rover Metro (learnt to drive in UK till they went away and I ragged the life out of it while they were gone) also known as "the turd" due to its lovely colour

Citroen 2CV (mum again) with twin exhaust, cam, and lightened bits and bobs

*2 more cars should be in here but I can't for the life of me remember what

Peugeot 306 DTurbo (finally sold it with 216,000 miles on and was stil going well!!)

Golf TDi 110BHP model, dual mass fly changed for a standard fly which made a hec of a difference!!

Volvo C70 now... Dad's not allowed to drive at the moment, so Mum is loving the roof down drives as often as she can!!

There are a few missing, I just have a very vague memory for their cars... My cars list is a lot less impressive now that I look at that lot though
