High Oil Pressure

Recommended Posts

PhilNW

Just running in a new rebuilt 1.9 and done 120 miles no problems, drove it out of the garage this afternnon and it dumped a load of oil on drive with the seal of the oil filter popped out. Put a new filter on and topped up but happened again. I put an uprated pressure spring during the rebuild, suspect its the spring and valve sticking with the cold oil.

Before I drop the sump and pump any thoughts as what else it could be.

Just grateful it did not happen down the road when it could have trashed the new engine. Think i stopped the engine in time to prevent damage

Thanks in advance

Phil

I've had this, did you fit a new, aftermarket, oil pump when you rebuilt the engine? And then dismantle it and fit a 6 bar spring from an XU10 pump?

No - used original pump as engine was in good nick when stripped down, uprated spring was a proper one from AB motorsport

Hmm, that spoils my theory then.

I have had the same problem before with an aftermarket pump fitted with a Peugeot spring to a rebuilt engine. I put it down to the dimensions in the aftermarket pump being different.

I hope you did not pay much for the spring. They are available from any main dealer for a few pounds.
