New Standard Exhaust - Where From?

Recommended Posts

madspikes

Its finally time I bite the bullet and get a new exhaust, tried to put on another patch on the back box yesterday (it already has two) but was struggling to find anything solid to weld it to and thats with a 3" x 5" patch... Too old and crusty.

I know that it use to be the case that an alvin was the one to buy and the timax was ones to avoid then it all got confusing as the companies merged.

My question what is best to buy now, and where from? As the back box is welded to the mid section and has also seen better days, I'm looking to replace from manifold back. My car is a 1992, so has the 2 part exhaust, can I and should I replace it with 3 part? I want a standard sounding exhaust.

Thanks,

Mad.

Bosal is a good quality brand, is what I run on mine. May be a pain to get hold of one

And no, you don't really want the earlier 3-piece system - it's typically smaller bore, and it's sleeve fit which is typically a PITA compared to the olive fit 2-piece systems.

I always find its a lottery for what brand you get.

I got a motoquip 309 wishbone pff them before and when I thought I'd try my luck again I got cheese part!

Recently the only system I have found that matches the original downpipe split design is a Walker but I can't find them locally to me & nowhere online will garuntee me what brand they will supply.

The last Arvin version I ordered was a euroflo brand & the split wasn't there.

the last exhaust I got from ECP was a walker one, but was for a 306 so I dont know if they do the original spec downpipe.

might b worth asking kev (blue_haddock) I know the brand they do off the shelf is Euroflow but may be able to get others.

Is this the correct centre section from ECP?

Part Number: 704735331

Euro Car Parts

Thought I might take advantage of the 25% discount online this weekend :)

looks like a 3 piece system centre box which would be sleeve fit and smaller diameter.

this would be the correct one for a phase 2, branded Timax

Thanks for the reply- do you have any experience with Timax exhausts, regarding quality?

Not that I can remember sorry, have SS longlife exhausts on two of my cars after the old systems rotting/blowing the baffles out, and any other car I;ve had didnt need any fitting.

I do know Euroflow is to be avoided though

and Walker seemed ok when I fitted one a few years ago to the brother inlaw's 306, which is still going now with my little brother.

i got stung by ecp, they said it was the later 2 piece system, but when delivered it was the sleeve fit 3 piece system, complete waste of time.

I got the bosal back box from http://www.mpdonline.co.uk/ maidenhead branch 40 quid

They said they might be able to order the other center section when i quoted the bosal part numbers which were

backbox part number I quoted was a bosal one 190-893, it's the phase two exhaust, years 89-92, and it's the same for the 1.6 and 1.9.

center section was 219-911, best price i was quoted was around 90 from the same place, or a bit more from GSF, they said they could not tell me what make it was.

Hope this helps

Cheers

J

Thanks for all the replies to my inital question, who would of thought buying an exhaust would such a pain in the donkey.

I'm also looking at using the eurocar parts discount, as getting a walker branded one seems a non starter. Anyone know which of the two back boxes listed goes with the 2 part system.

is it 705735031 or 705735111? I would have added proper links but site has stopped working for me at the moment...
