Removing wings...

One I have just thought of that can be awkward, getting the engine mount off the side of an 8v XU to do the cambelt. Even a short socket/ratchet is too long to get in.

No need to remove that to do the belt though Tom - providing that you've suitably skinny hands you can remove and refit the belt with it still in place.

I removed it once when I first did an 8v belt swap and was following the Haynes manual, but quickly decided that you didn't need to do that and the probably couple of dozen belts that I've done since have all been done with that mount still in place. Makes an 8v belt swap very quick and easy, as there's little more to it than removing the alternator belt and crank pulley, removing the cambelt covers, slacking off the tensioner, and removing the belt - 30 minutes start to finish assuming that you're not doing the waterpump at the same time.

I imagine that it could be a bit more of an issue if you've huge slabs of meat for hands though.

even though i agree working on a 205 can be annoying at times theres nothing thats as tedious as taking this gearbox out of a s*ite tanker you have to drag it across the floor because it wont fit under the chassis on anything and you can barely get to any of the bolts because the person who designed the tanker attachment apparently thinks you don't ever have to take the gearbox out

trying to slide the gearbox back on while lying on your back is probably the most frustrating, espcially on a turbo'd car, or those two 10mm bolts on the down pipe can be a tw@ if there rusty and you dont have new ones to replace them.

pfft at the 11mm drive shaft nuts its a 2min job

Argh!!!!!

This one! I hate those bolts so much!!!!

I found trying to fit the tank back into place whilst trying to keep all the hoses in the right place and connecting up the filler hole a real PITA.

Definitely the dash/interior trim, trying to work out where to start, "gently" pulling on 20 year old pieces of cheap plastic only to hear that familiar soft cracking sound of it all going wrong... duct tape and zip cords just don't look as good sticking out of the dash!

Exhausts hurt my eyes and bumper brackets always spin... <_<

What if the 8v engine has the spring type tensioner and you need to change it, from what i could tell that bracket needs to come off...???

Nope. Changed the belt, spring type tensioner and water pump on mine recently with the bracket still in place. Did it all from underneath and was not that difficult but I do not have bit slabs for hands.

Totally agree with that ^. Its just annoying.

The two bolts on the exhaust I do hate.

So far though my worst job has been try to get the metal coolant hose bolts undone. The one that bolts to the wing with philps heads. Anyone that has managed to get that off without rounding them off my hat comes off to you!

You have a point there. I managed to undo one of mine fine, the other was completely chewed and now just spins. I have tried to chisel the blighter off but no luck. Will get the grinder out and go an tackle it at some point. Apparently you can get the back of it through a hole.

Another vote for the half-shaft retaining bolts. Though really the bolts themselves are ok, it's just getting the shaft out after. Exhausts are a bitch too. I never seem to be able to make them seal properly, so my car is always blowing a little from somewhere!

Removing fuel tanks for me. No dought one of the 2 studs will shear. Normally they would get some heat, but the tank would melt...

I have no problems doings beams now. When you do a few you get a nack for it and make tools to press items out safely.
